"Decent freeware - Needs MS hotfix"
Version: EMDR Aid 4.1
Pros
Once the "comctl32.ocx" Microsoft hotfix is applied the freeware does what it says it does in a very simple and easy to use way.
Cons
The user has to apply a hotfix and/or find the missing file online and register it on the PC.
Summary
It would be nice if the software Dev's corrected the missing file issue, but it's freeware so don't expect them to spend much time fixing a Windows compatibility issue. Here's how to take care of it yourself if you want to give the software a go.
1. Search for the missing file "comctl32.ocx" online.
2. (optional) Run a quick virus scan on the file.
3. Copy it to the "C:\windows\system32" folder.
4. Register the file: Start > Run > (type) regsvr32 comctl32.ocx -
"DOESN'T WORK!! MISSING FILE!!"
Version: EMDR Aid 4.1
Pros
I have downloaded this software several times on two different computers. IT DOESN'T WORK. All I get after the initial screen is that there's a missing file. Big waste of time.
Cons
I have downloaded this software several times on two different computers. IT DOESN'T WORK. All I get after the initial screen is that there's a missing file. Big waste of time.
Summary
Would be nice if it would work.
Well, thanks to H2oGrrl's review (thanks, H2oGrrl!!), I was able to use the program. I would upgrade it to maybe 2 stars--2.5 stars if Cnet would let me. For one thing, once I set the session length, I couldn't find any way to change it, even when I exited and reopened the program. There were no adjustments or help of any kind. Also, it's a small window which you CANNOT maximize, so you need to put your face much closer to the screen or your eyes won't get the movement required. Personally, I'm sorry I wasted my time on getting EMDR Aid. But H2oGrrl's suggestion did work.
