"Even the updated 8.1 non-beta version does not work"
Version: EA Download Manager 4.0.0.168
Pros
If it works you can purchase games from EA online.
Cons
Low dedicated bandwidth. Downloads are slow and fail often. The software programming is very poor. My beta version failed constantly as did the 8.1 updated version. This product does not hold a candle to Steam.
Summary
EA has every right to bring their online game distribution in-house. However, the company shows nothing but contempt for paying customers that are forced to use an abominable program to download and manage their games. EA looks like a bunch of amateurs rather then a cutting edge coding house. Shame on them. Buy the disks, Origin will only waste your time.

Not needing to go ask to go far places to shop for the games. Australia doesn't have much EA games for computers.Cons

"WAY TO SLOW......"
Version: EA Download Manager 4.0.0.168
Pros
It works to download updates and patches for games and make available for download of some games online.
Cons
It is a real dog when it comes to speed I can normally get a bit over a MBps sec but with this download manager I can only get around 100KBps that is 1/10 the speed.
Summary
It compares very poorly with other services like steam and even with autoupdaters that can even offer patches and add-ons right from the program. EA should be able to do better than this I'm thinking (cheap with networking services) so bandwidth suffers. So they created this program to gloss that fact over but it is almost glaringly obvious to even someone who doesn't know alot about that end of computing like myself. This is a very sad attempt at saving money. But a great way to reduce confidence in customer service.

"Rarely, if ever, works properly on my Windows 7 system."
Version: EA Download Manager 4.0.0.168
Pros
Pshaw! IF it works right, it's fine for those of you that download your games from EA's site, but pretty much worthless if you've got hard copies of your games.
Cons
I'm SO over the constant scrolling error messages of nonfunctionality, I can barely put it into words! Regardless of the Windows OS compatibility settings I initiate, the EADM just NEVER seems to work right since Windows XP!
Summary
It'd be one thing if it was an occasional glitch with the EADM that I've experienced, but, again, since upgrading to a brand-spanking new Windows 7-using desktop system, none of the standard, or more in-depth, troubleshooting steps seem to get the EA Download Manager to work properly on my system. Trying to get it to work right is a colossal waste of my time, since NOTHING that I've tried seems to work for very long with it. It's a flawed program that has lots of potential, but WAY too many ignored glitches, much like EA's famous The Sims 3 series, of which I'm an avid fan, WHEN it works, which is far less often than I'd like. Why? Again, unresolved bugs and glitches that have been ignored in favor, apparently, of the Next Big Thing that'll bring more money to the company, and more frustration to the game's players. Par for the course, I guess.

"Deleted entire "My Documents" folder on install"
Version: EA Download Manager 4.0.0.168
Pros
It worked, if slowly and annoyingly, until I uninstalled it.
Cons
When I uninstalled it, it took out my entire "My Documents" folder with no visible means of retrieval. Photos, taxes, business files, everything gone.

"Awfully slow"
Version: EA Download Manager 4.0.0.168
Pros
It's nice to be able to download a game without leaving home.
Cons
It would be faster to go get the game at the store, or even order it and have it shipped overnight. My current download has 33 hours left. It's running at 57 KB/sec, which would mean my internet is going at less than .5 Mbps.
