"This program just saved my butt!!"

    January 21, 2010  |   By leemail98

    Version: Durable Copy 3.7

    Pros

With Durable Copy, I just copied my 1.3 gig Thunderbird Inbox file over from a failing hard drive. The inbox was corrupt with unreadable sectors and this program got the job done.

    Cons

A little quirky on Win7. It froze the first time I opened it. The interface is okay. Choose file navigator mode! Open your destination folder on the left, and files to be copied in the right-side pane. Click the big Copy button at bottom when ready.

    Summary

Free 8 gigs worth of copying in the trial... it's at least worth it to give it a shot.

It worked for my situation... but if you have media files with unreadable sectors, you'll likely have blank spots or skipping spots in your audio/video once it's recovered.

    "Works Like a Charm"

    May 21, 2007  |   By johnhake

    Version: Durable Copy 2.0.2

    Pros

If you have trouble copying files within Windows because of bad sectors on your hard drive, I HIGHLY recommend this program. Durable Copy excels where regular windows copying stinks. And it's easy to use! The "Durable Copy" function is available within the right-click (context) menu in Windows.

Big plus: The Demo appears to be fully functional, so it's WELL worth a try. The demo worked perfectly for me, and since Durable Copy saved me alot of trouble, I went ahead and bought it afterwards. I have a feeling it will come in handy again, since hard drives seem to be declining in resiliency these days.

How Durable Copy helped me: My wife had a registry file failure on her computer because of bad sectors on her hard drive. Even after trying the Windows recovery console, her computer was STILL unable to boot, and therefore I could not transfer the activation of very expensive design software to her new hard drive (poof, there goes hundreds of dollars). I slipped the old drive into a working computer and used Durable Copy's DEMO to easily copy the registry file (c:\windows\system32\config\software) to another hard drive and back again, which allowed me to boot from her old drive and recover what I needed.

Side note: It turned out that only 0.01% of the 34MB registry file was corrupted. Windows threw up its hands in surrender and considered the whole registry inoperable, whereas Durable Copy reclaimed 99.99% of the file and made the computer work again. Gotta love it!

    Cons

    No complaints whatsoever.
