Why does CNET list this software as free? It's NOT FREE. It costs $49.90. Trial is free but then trial version does CRAP. Doesn't allow to do ANYTHING.

Ver 3.4 errored out if more than 100,000 files were attempted.

The trial version of 3.4 said (inside the program): Did you know... Registered users of Duplicate Finder receive upgrades to future versions of Duplicate Finder for free. This prompted me to pay the fee, and register.
Version 4.3 is out, and I inquired as to how I get my free upgrade.
My inquiry was responded to as follows: "Sorry the policy was changed long ago but unfortunately, our technical team forgot to remove it from the Tips Window." They went on to say: "Dont [sic] worry if you purchase the Extended License you will definite [sic] get the all updates major or minor free of charge for two years."Summary
If they don't honor what they admit was the "lure" to register in a previous version, what makes them think we will believe them now?

Registration is free and provides you with access to additional benefits. It takes only 2 minutes to complete.. When that is entered, we check our e-mail for a code. The e-mail isn't instant; it took 25 minutes for it to show up. I copied the registration code from the e-mail, and put it into the program, and it began to work in its limited fashion again. -

Ability to select types of files to check for.Cons
Must pay for Pro version to get even more options. But well worth it in the end if you have a lot to do. Free version will get the job done, but Pro version adds a little more options to make it easier.
Summary
The best part of this program is the Preview window. Makes it real hard to delete a duplicate when you can see it. Just because a file has the same name, does NOT make it the same and this program with the preview windows helps you make the right choices. The program also has an option for you to protect accidental deleting of files from a folder or folders. Fantastic! Finds all kinds of Duplicate files. After weeding out the duplicates, it helped me rename the rest.

"GREAT PROGRAM"

My music folder was slam full of duplicates.I simply selected the folder,chose byte by byte scan, clicked mark all duplicates,and clicked delete. Presto,it freed up 13 gigs of disk space.And that WAS the free version.So all these people saying it doesn't work at all unless you go pro,just don't know what they are doing.Advanced features r blocked,but totally unnecessary to use the program.I love it.

Didnt have any. A clean install. No adware or unwanted stuff included.They guy who said it installed a bunch of crap on his computer,is just plain lying.

I highly recommend this program.Not that hard to figure out. Chimps shouldnt own computers.

"Easy and Saves Lots of My Disk Space!"

I want to thanks the developer for creating such a good piece of software which did wonders to my hard disk... My files are taking very large space on my disk and I did not know that I have that much of duplicate files. This sofware find and delete them all and that too for FREE.

Easy to install and safe to use with warning features. Simple and easy to use, takes a while to get through the list but does a good job, I found nothing that was not actually a duplicate. Love the program.
