Dumpster brings you one of the most sorely missed Android functions: a recycle bin that allows you to restore deleted documents, photos, music, and movies to your SD card. While effective and useful, the app cannot restore files that have been deleted before you've installed it, and occasionally lags.

Pros

Outstanding functionality: Dumpster does act like a true recycle bin, offering you the possibility to restore accidentally deleted files like family photos or videos that otherwise would be lost. It can save your day.

Straightforward and accessible: Deleted items can be sorted, previewed, and multiselected. You only have to choose which file types the app should keep an eye on, and then open the app and restore the files -- no SD card scanning or online connectivity are necessary.

Cons

Occasional slow performance: In our tests, the 800MB video we deleted did not initially appear in the deleted files list, giving us the impression that the app failed to pick it up. Five minutes later, after deleting some more files and opening the app again, the video appeared.

Increased system maintenance time: This app is a recycle bin, not a file recovery agent, so it adds another tap to the file deletion process -- deleted files are kept on your SD card until trashed within the app.

Bottom Line

Because file management on a mobile device can be awkward at times, making the accidental deletion of photos and documents a major issue for many, Dumpster brings you peace of mind, providing a function that perhaps should be implemented by default in Android. The free version will do, but the Pro version comes with screen lock protection and promises better performance.
