    "Too complex for me"

    October 4, 2008  |   By iversaaro

    Version: Drupal 5.0

    Pros

It's feature rich and for a personal blog it's the best out there.

    Cons

If you want to publish a 'normal' corporate website to your own specific design it just doesn't have the flexibility. For this you can't beat either Joomla or Yendo.

    Summary

Good for blogging, bad for everything else

    "Powerful"

    May 6, 2008  |   By techprophet

    Version: Drupal 5.0

    Pros

Very powerful software for team and (software) project management. I use Organic Groups Sites and Hubs as well as the Projects modules to manage my development teams' work.

    Cons

Lack of module compatibility layer (a layer that allows modules for old versions to work with the new ones).

"Simplicity, speed, secure yet powerful- and best of all: free. I love it!"

    June 8, 2007  |   By stealth17

    Version: Drupal 5.0

    Pros

I have been using Drupal for about 6 months now. At first I was a little weary due to the lack of themes. It seemed that you could always pick a site running Drupal out of the crowd. Well through my journey I have learned it is quite the contrary.

I first started out with Mambo/Joomla. It is a pretty nice CMS and it seemed to have everything I needed. I created a couple custom templates, and spent hours searching through the colossal amounts of pre-made templates. I built a site with it and explored all of it's capabilities for every feature I required.

At this point I was comfortable with Joomla. There was something about it though that made me feel like I was limited, like something was holding me back. Not sure what it is, but after discovering Drupal the difference is like night and day.

No need to try to code your own CMS if you just want something simple. I was headed in that direction but changed my mind when I fell upon Drupal. It is scalable for the smallest of site to a corporate site with thousands of users.

I am definitely glad I found Drupal and I now use it for all my personal needs and for my clients. Good work Drupal devs, keep it up! I am very excited to see what Drupal 6 has to bring!

    Cons

The Drupal.org website is pretty slow at times, this can be a nag if you are looking for something important. It can set you back a bit, but it is a gateway to all the information you need to use Drupal.

    "This CMS is a treat!"

    January 17, 2007  |   By tknospdr

    Version: Drupal 5.0

    Pros

Very configurable, easy to set up and use. Easy to theme and customize.

    Cons

The only con I want to touch on right now is that download.com says this is a Windows only product. It's actually cross-platform and is more at home on *nix than Windows.

"Flexible / Quick on request / Large community"

    March 17, 2006  |   By D3bug

    Version: Drupal 4.5.2

    Pros

Very flexible CMS, clean, nice themes, large community. Way to go about this one.

    Cons

This CMS is not "that" easy to understand at first, as it is using an administration system that is quite different from the usual opensource CMS (e107, php-nuke and alike), using "nodes". However you really do not need to know how coding or so...You have some readme files that will explain everything you need to do.

    Version: Drupal 4.5.2

    Pros

Site building for the lazy ^_^

You can get an excellent looking site without the huge amount of coding.

    Cons

    Some mySQL experience, etc required.

    Definately not for beginners.

    "Not this one either,,,, Why?"

    January 6, 2006  |   By PokerSpider

    Version: Drupal 4.5.2

    Pros

imposible to install..You need to know all about mysql,php,cms,programing,coding,ewerything....Useless program

    Cons

Well the thing i dont get with the folks creating cms systems.....HOW DO THEY MANAGE TO CREATE THE PROGRAM,,,,BUT NOT MANAGE TO EVEN CREATE/PROVIDE A SENSEBLE INSTALATION PROSEDURE???????????????

Why do people even try to say you dont need any mysql php etc knowledge when one needs to hire a "company" to install it...Its a freeware i know but ive been wanting to try cms as foundation for my site but i`ve not been able to, because of that i havent managed to install even one of the free programms that are out there...

The day i see a developer that has the knowledge to make a deasent instalation of what they create...well then il give them 5 pages of ads and fact and yep,, all they want.

As for now there are not one single good program out there,as this is not good either...

I think i have the rights to complain about it and think about this:::::if you were to create a program....?wouldnt you prefer to make it posible for people to use it....??????????????? i know i would.

    Tired of all the crap....

"Best for those who don't want to waste time figuring something complex out"

    December 24, 2004  |

    Version: Drupal 4.5

    Summary

    Cons:
    - Installation requires more knowledge than the average user would know -- however the install instructions are thier and relativly easy to follow. Create a MysQL database and giving it a user for Drupal is the most complex part. Not very difficult for most Linux users, but perhaps more difficult than the average user.

    - Permission restrictions are in a module and not part of the core (yet) and are still sorda in beta stage. They do work and occasionally have a bug or two. I use it for my personal website and trust it enough but have had my issues with it once or twice.

    - Writting your own modules and themes is still a pretty hairy. The documentation is growing and looking better and better. Writting a basic module is pretty easy, but if you write anything more complex than a node type, your asking for some trouble. I've seeked out this trouble and am currently trying to tackle them.

    Pros:
    - Aside from MySQL complexity (if you call that a complexity) getting your Drupal instal is, by far, the simplest CMS program that I've ever used.

    - I recieved excellent support with my permissions issues.

    - A plethora of modules exists. A few themes exists as well, but not very many for the latest version (which was released not too too long ago, perhaps a month or so).

    - Getting a module installed is simple, assuming you know MySQL. It's as simple as import a mysql file into your drupal DB and copy a .module file to your modules folder, enabling the module through Drupal and going about what you need to do (settings, adding nodes, etc).

    Terms:
Node - A node is a single entry in a database to which you associte to. Perhaps a story article, blog entry, event, etc.
Theme - How your site looks. Relate this to skins for a program.
