    "One request"

    Version: Drop Drawers X 1.6.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used Drop Drawer for many years now, and utterly depend on it. Apps in various tabs, document types each in a separate tab, text snippets, and: one tab for troubleshooting (the solutions to problems that I always seem to forget when I need them).

One of DD's advantages is that you can actually see the name of the file/folder/app in the drawers; with many rival apps, that is not the case. So if I want to launch one of my Tinderbox-files, or Ulysses-files, I have to go through an additional step in those applications; not so in DD. With long text snippets, you can give them a shorthand name. URL's can directly be loaded, but the snippet can also be pasted in a field elsewhere.

In short, DD works faster and with less clicks than other apps.

The one thing that does bother me, is that it takes screen space, no matter how little. Whenever I enlarge a window to extend to full window size, somthing of that screen is obscured by DD. The scrollbar, mostly. So I have to resize the window manuallyâ??and that happens a lot. Even more with my iBook 12". (I have 10-11 drawers).

So my big wish would be, that the drawers could altogether disappear like the dock, or that it gives a signal to the finder not to let windows extend under DD's drawers.

DD has been rock solid over these years, never crashed; highly recommended.

    Version: Drop Drawers X 1.6.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've used all the other launcher utilities, and while some are excellent, nothing fulfills my needs like DD. The text insertion drawer feature alone saves me a boatload of typing every day (and my typing sucks!).

I agree that pop-up folders would be a great addition but the feature I would most love to see added is spring loaded folders from drawers. Gideon has been extremely cool about conversing with me on this feature request and I gather it is a rather complex one as it would, to my limited understanding, require DD to "hand off" user interaction to the Finder. Not to worry, though... if it can be done elegantly, I'm sure we'll see it.

In the meantime, I can now happily install Tiger.

    "Another ESSENTIAL"

    Version: Drop Drawers X 1.6.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There are relatively few apps out there that I can't live without. This baby is one of them. There are none so simple, so unobtrusive and so robust. No need for menus or in-your-face toolbars. I keep all my Drop Drawers tabs on the right side of my screen, organized by category - Folders, Utilities, Communications, Graphics/Multimedia, DB/Reference and Applications (general). A swipe of the cursor over there, and I gain instant access to any file I want. It's about as fast as typing a key combination, and you can these up with Drop Drawers if you so desire. I have been using this app since it was in it's beta stage in OS 9, and it's one of the first apps I install with a new system. Windoze users have been astounded when I demonstrate, and they wonder if it's part of the OS. I only wish DD had spring-loaded folders, but as it is, it's a keeper.

There is absolutely nothing better than Drop Drawers X for launching applications, organizing your applications. I've tried all the others. Too bad so many people don't know about Drop Drawers X.

    Version: Drop Drawers X 1.6.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Some of the icons on the launcher bars refuse to be activated and therefore do not work. In addition, when clicking on the DropDrawer's icon, the running apps bar appears semi-transparent and will not be activated by a click and therefore can not be closed. The last issues is the icon. How is it that so many apps are capable of hiding their icons and not this one????

On the positive side, this is the only app that will keep it's icons in the toolbar if the connection to the network has been stopped. PathFinder for example, deletes the icons from it's side bar if the connection to that drive is broken. The only other choice would be the Dock and I prefer to keep the network drives separately.

Using Drop Drawers as my default launcher since 1999...it trumps the competition! The only improvement I'd like to see is a better folding drilling UI, such as with DragThing. DragThing displays folder and file icons (unlimited levels) and is fast.

Now I can use Path Finder!

I've been using it for a long time & like it more than DragThing.
Your desktop stays uncluttered & it's so easy to manage.
I keep one drawer for apps, one for utilities & one for documents.

I love Drop Drawers and have used it for years -- it is one of the very few pieces of shareware that I've ever paid for. Integration with Path Finder is AWESOME -- the Finder won't be running on my machine any more!

    "DropDrawers is great!"

    Version: Drop Drawers X 1.6.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm a registered user. DropDrawers can run AppleScripts, store text and picture clippings and MUCH more. I actually like it better than DragThing, since it activates automatically when mousing over it (no click required).

The two main things I would ask is for it to be scriptable, and have "live folder-tabs". I can run scripts FROM it, but cannot tell scripts to do things TO it. The "live folder-tabs" idea is that of having a tab be a representation of an actual folder, updating its contents whenever the folder changes. Wow, how about a tab that dynamically updates its contents based on a dynamic search? The tab idea is great, and allows many possibilities for development. I look forward to what the developer has planned. I'd PAY AGAIN for an update that included dynamically-updating search tabs and scriptability.
