"Can break system and support is terrible"

    December 4, 2009  |   By gbgolfer

    Version: DriverAgent 2.2009.7.30

    Pros

I have to admit that when I downgraded a laptop from Vista to XP it found a driver that I needed.

    Cons

The product gives invalid results and support is terrible. Drivers suggested are very often for the wrong hardware or are downrev and can (and do) break your system.

    Summary

Support has had a "very serious and critical" bug (their words) open for over 2-1/2 months and the support people can't get the developer's attention to even look at it.

I've called three times to get a status on the problem. Here's the issue: The scans are put on their servers and you get a URL to view the results. Support doesn't see the same scan results as the users, so they can't offer any advise at all. I called in to get an explanation of the scan results I was getting. The guy couldn't even offer an opinion because he wasn't seeing my scan. This basic problem isn't even being fixed!

AVOID THIS PRODUCT LIKE THE PLAGUE! Only in the most dire circumstance and as your last gasp effort should you even consider this piece of junk.

"Do Not BUY - 100% rip-off!!!! No support response."

    November 16, 2009  |   By mjbsaunders

    Version: DriverAgent 2.2009.7.30

    Pros

Nothing is good about this s/w.

    Cons

The software offered a driver update which broke my o/s. The free scan highlight there is a bios update even when in fact you are current. Support never returned my call/emails. BE WARNED. Unable to give this 0/5 stars....Begrudgingly give it 1/5

    Summary

Rip-off. Dangerous as driver likely could damage your system. No response from support. Scanner will falsely indicate there is a bios update for your computer, which then you will be told later that infact you have the latest version. A complete BAIT and DITCH....

Customer service is rude hard to deal with.

    Summary

    IMHO Not worth the headache.

"Useless, should get no star rating."

    September 24, 2009  |   By Foosaboi

    Version: DriverAgent 2.2009.7.30

    Pros

    Found out of date drivers.

    Cons

Found out of date drivers, but you have to pay upfront for the info. Drivers are provided free from vendors, so it's not worth the money. Doesn't uninstall correctly.

"We don't think about drivers much, but maybe we should"

    September 11, 2009  |   By Bard15

    Version: DriverAgent 2.2009.7.30

    Pros

Maybe I really could manage all my own drivers and go tracking them down at vendor sites. But is that how I want to spend my time? Worth the price to have a service that tells me what I need and gives me immediate access to the downloads.

    Cons

Updating drivers always has the potential to be tricky, and sometimes hork your computer if something goes wrong. That's not DriverAgent's fault, but it is a hurdle they have to consider when making the service easy and understandable for everybody.

    Summary

Some industry bigwig once famously called Windows "just a bag of drivers." Not all those drivers come from Microsoft, either. We forget that. It's big news when a new version of Windows comes out, and there's that "automatic updates" thing built in for the little fixes, but how about the dozens of other drivers from assorted vendors that are running under the covers, keeping all your devices happily talking to each other? How are you going to know that there's a bug in your wireless driver, unless you take the time to go visit your wireless device's vendor site? How often you going to do that? Even more to the point, are you sure you're able to determine the vendor of your wireless device, and find their web site?

You could do these things, sure. Drivers are free and it's the responsibility of each vendor how easy they make it to find and update them. DriverAgent's not trying to hide that fact, or charge you for them. The question is how much time and effort it would take you individually to do it, and then providing a service that does it for you. You get to decide how much your time is worth.

Is it right for you? Do you even care about driver updates? Depends. Ever get blue screens? Slow performance for no reason? CD that won't play, audio that crackles, or other problems that are only fixed by a reboot, only to happen again some random time later? Yeah, it's not supposed to do that. Maybe you want to scan for driver updates. You'd be surprised what you'll find.
