    "Sometimes works well"

    January 8, 2014  |   By kfmachinisu

Clear interface if you can ignore the obtrusive ads for the paid version. Software works efficiently when its database of drivers is accurate. Apparently, the authors are working to improve the accuracy of the database. Greatly eases the process of updating drivers (when it works properly). Automatically creates a restore point before updating a Windows 7 machine.

The nags contained in the free version make it difficult to notice that the software is doing anything during the driver update process, potentially leading the user to abandon the update in the middle. Although the driver updates installed by the software on my HP desktop appear to have worked flawlessly, an earlier version of the program installed updates to my custom Windows 7 machine that disabled the sound and video. Driver Booster correctly identified my hardware components, but probably its database is unaware of whatever customizations some mainboard manufacturers have made to those components, resulting in an update that did not work. The restore point created by Driver Booster made it easy to roll back the system to its pre-update state; but the fact remains that the software worked for only one of two of my machines. The version of Driver Booster that failed me is not the current one, and the Driver Booster folks claim they have since refined their database, so ....??

Automatic driver update packages are tricky to create because of the extreme number of small variations between different implementations of various components that utilize drivers. My past experience with driver update packages has not been encouraging. Driver Booster has done better than the one or two others I have tried in the past, but a user may still need to be knowledgeable about how to roll back his or her system in case a driver update turns out not to work for their specific machine.

Driver Booster is more likely to find driver updates for a machine than one will ever learn about from the machine manufacturer. So, if you are interested in improving your drivers, this package might be worth a try, especially since it's a big job to seek out driver updates on your own.

    Hi kfmachinisu,

Thanks for your detailed review and feedback.

Driver Booster has the automatic installing feature. You can disable it in More Settings >> Setttings >> Driver >> untick Install drivers in background automatically >> click Apply. Then we will get the wizard windows and see the complete installation process.

And we are working on the dabatase to cover all kinds for driver updates asap.

As for the restore problem, you can also click the "Feedback" buttom so we can look into it further.

We look forward to your feedback again:)
