If you're into pay-for-use screensavers, it's hard to imagine that there's a better looking one around than Dream Aquarium. Limited to only two fish species in the trial version, the full version sports 18 species for all you ichthymaniacs out there. However, there are no other handicaps, and users can take advantage of the well-drawn and well-animated options for everything from oxygen bubbles to tank background to the camera and animation speed.

There's some neat additional controls, as well: Users can feed the fish, and they can change the animation from 3D-renderings to wireframe. Our most recent XP tests didn't see the flickering we noticed in past past evaluations, though such flickering was noted during tests on Vista machines, indicating that there may be a coding issue and not a graphics card concern. Nevertheless, this is still a screensaver that's sure to relax and entertain.

    Version: Dream Aquarium Screensaver 1.018

"By far the most advanced aquarium screensaver"

by rickybloomfield on June 10, 2006

Pros: Before I came across Dream Aquarium I had never before paid money for a screensaver. I would download the demos, find them mildly entertaining, and move on. Dream Aquarium has changed that by providing the most detailed and life-like virtual aquarium on the internet. The textures are detailed, the lighting is fantastic, the fish movement is sensational (they chase each other and nibble on the logs!) and there are a ton of configurable options.

Even with all these great features there is one thing that excites me the most - the developer is CONSTANTLY adding new options and fish as well as providing upgraded tanks. On an almost weekly basis there is something new to enjoy (but don't hold the developer to this release schedule!), and the simplified update mechanism makes it easy to access the new features.

I could go on, but do yourself a favor and download this product. If you appreciate the artistry and skill it took to craft such a high-quality screensaver, purchase it so that you can enjoy the wide variety of fish and addition tank options, and so that the developer can continue to add great features. You won't be disappointed.

    "Love it!"

    by gumbygirl22 on June 22, 2006

Pros: I love the whole thing. The fish are so realistic with their behaviors - and you can even feed them! I have all of the Sachs aquariums which are great, and this screensaver is a great addition to my aquarium collection.

Cons: No sound - but this is coming soon. I can't wait for that!

"The bar has been raised by the Dream Aquarium screensaver"

    by dom5885 on June 11, 2006

Pros: Dream Aquarium is the best screensaver I have seen, bar none. This is still a relatively new product, yet, the fish behave like real fish.

Spiralmonkey's attention to detail and eagerness to support his product bode well for on-going development and enhancements.

It is so good that I bought it!!!

    Version: Dream Aquarium Screensaver 1.018

"Probably the best fish screensaver out there."

by Navel Fuzz on June 13, 2006

Pros: I've always wanted a to own a fish tank or maybe a Koi pond, but I never seem to get around to it. This is where Dream Aquarium comes in. The fish look real and there are many details that make it look and act like the real thing. The fish behavior is realistic and the movement is the best I've seen. If you look close enough you can even see the gills moving.

I'm a big fan of the Marine Aquarium and Goldfish screensavers. For my money those two still have the most realistic looking fish. But when it comes to the details of movement and behaviors, Dream Aquarium takes a back seat to no one. It really is that good.

Cons: I'm not a big fan of the current tanks. There's nothing wrong with them per se, but I find them a little too monochromatic. And currently there's no sound. Although that's been promised as coming soon.
