    "Old, But Still The Best"

    May 16, 2012  |   By micklail

Version: Dr. Divx OSS 2.0.1 Beta 7

    Pros

This program is so simple, anyone would be hard pressed to find fault with it. It can make files as small as you like, or it can make them so good you can't tell them from the source DVD. I have digitized 114 of my movies so far and they all look great.

I have tried Handbrake, and others, but the people who make those programs seem to try and make them as difficult to use as they can. 99.9% of the population wants something to just work. We don't want fancy, and we don't want to have to know code to use a program.

In my opinion, Dr. Divx is the best there is, no matter that it is a few years old and not being updated. If it works, it works.

    Dr. Divx works.

    Cons

I am amazed that SOMEBODY has not updated this program since 2008.

    Summary

If you want your DVDs on your hard drive, this is the program for you. And no, it is not a ripper. If you want a ripper, get DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter, and RipIt4Me. Install them all.

Putting my movies on a hard drive will save them from wear and tear. Once they get ripped, they get stored. :)

    Updated on May 16, 2012

DR. Divx will work with the DivX CODEC up to 6.8.4 as far as I can tell.

I forgot to mention that Dr. Divx does sub-titles as well and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get them to work. Just check the box. :)

You may also want to install VirtualDub for the rare movie that has sync problems. This is not a problem with Dr. Divx, it is just the way the movie and sound are put on the disc.

    "Amazing Divx Converter"

    January 8, 2010  |   By smiates45

Version: Dr. Divx OSS 2.0.1 Beta 7

    Pros

Supports 5.1 Digital Surround, Subtitle Tracks, High-Quality Video, Easy Interface

    Cons

    None that I have encountered.

    Summary

This program needs more props I just used it to convert the entire HBO series The Wire to my external hard drive and it saved me so much frustration I was having with other converters such as Handbrake. Could not get native 5.1 surround or subtitles to work with handbrake. Dr. Divx let me convert a file that had untouched 5.1 digital audio as well as additional audio streams such as Director's commentary and multiple subtitle tracks. Divx is a widely compatible codec and works perfectly on the PS3. Shrunk the file to half the size with almost no visible loss in quality. Great Great program. Can't say enough.
