"Uninstalled after 10+ years of use"

    September 19, 2012  |   By ARRC

    Pros

Very simple and reliable download manager.

    Cons

Auto update added malware to my IE and FF browsers, in the form of the Speedbit homepage and the default search engine. In trying to go back to my defaults, I ended up spending 5 hours fighting with all the config settings to try to rid my browsers from the clutches of Speedbit. But Speedbit is insidious in staying latched to the browsers. I ended up deleting both Speedbit and DAP applications from my system and will not use either ever again.

    Summary

Version 10 started out fine with a manual install but unless you want your homepage as Speedbit and Speedbit as your default search engine, then don't use the auto update feature and you will probably be alright. I just got frustrated and decided to rid myself of the problem. There appears to be a residual effect on FF 15 that doesn't allow new launches of FF even after uninstalling and reinstalling with a clean system. Shame on Speedbit for hurting their loyal users. This loyal user has left for less invasive tools.
