"Map the modifier keys you don't use"
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6.1
Pros
Having recently moved from a PC to Mac, I really missed the Del key (in other words a forward delete rather than a back space). I've used this software to convert the right hand alt-option key to be a Del key.
Cons
Unfortunately my remapped alt-option key (now the Del key) doesn't repeat so if I want to delete lots of characters I need to keep pressing it.
Summary
There are about 20 other key-remaps with this software, however, this is the only one I use.

"Affected Shut Down"
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6.6b1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Double Command itself worked great for me and enabled me to set up some helpful keyboard combinations. Unfortunately, there's a "Yes, but..."
After I installed Double Command 1.6.6b1, when I selected "Shut Down" or used the power button my MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo w/OS10.5.2, would go to Sleep. When I reopened the the computer it would never come out of sleep and would keep a black screen. I was not able to do anything until I did a "Force Quit" by holding down the power button. On the restart, thing worked fine until the next shut down. When I deleted Double Command, the problem disappeared.
I'll give it 4 to 5 stars if that problem is corrected. -

Thanks, the latest version fixes my failure to restart problem and the mysterious error upon startup. -
"Works in Leopard!"
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6.3
Summary

Well, I just installed Leopard and dared to try this kernel extension, and actually to my surprise, it worked fine! I didn't test all key remapping options, but it worked perfectly for my purposes of remapping my PowerBooks 'enter' key to be 'option'. So yea, I'm on a 1.67Ghz G4 PPC PowerBook, I guess it's possible there could be an issue with Intel Macs, but I wouldnt know. I'M GLAD THIS STILL WORKS! Thank You! -
"Love this program"

I never was able to use forward-delete on my Mac because my "fn" button is screwed for some reason. Now that I download and installed "DoubleCommand" using Shift-Backspace works GREAT (and is more natural).. I highly recommend this to everyone. -
"Excellent utility, but"
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6.1

notice that 1.6.1 and up works with 10.4 only and you must use 1.5.5 from the developer's site in order to use it with 10.3. On this page it is currently indicated in error that 1.6.1 requires 10.1 or later. -
"V1.6 Working Perfectly with OS 10.4.3"
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
While I need its capability for just one key remaping, it's working perfectly on my TiPB (1 GHZ/1 GB)--which is now running OS 10.4.3. (Same "working perfectly" has applied from when I was using DoubleCommand at v1.5.5.) Looking forward to upgrading to v1.6.2 when it's out of beta. -
"Let's get this right..."
Version: DoubleCommand 1.6
Summary

DoubleCommand has worked flawlessly for many iterations, and matured to an extremely flexible and easy to use product that offers indispensable functionality to a wide range of users. The obvious observation is that it increases accessibility for often-used keystrokes. In truth it helps redress the fact that, unfortunately, Apple is not very good at maximizing the ergonomics of its hardware as exemplified by the pathetic omission of Option and Control keys to the right of the Space bar on portable keyboards, for too many generations -- a blatant case of not thinking things through hard enough.
If you use your laptop keyboard modifiers a lot, and/or if you are left-handed, this is invaluable. Oh, and it does not even require a log-out.
p.s. hey, "kaida": look up "review". You're supposed to write why you don't think something is good, if you single-star an app, especially a free one. -

"Works fine but disabled F keys for Exposé..."
Version: DoubleCommand 1.5b3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Finally, something that picks up where uControl left everybody. After I praised uControl, I hope I'm not making a fool of myself by commending Michael for this much needed PowerBook utility. Has a primitive way of installing and even more when setting the prefs, but, as opposed to uControl, it works (except for the F5 key which stubbornly continues to toggle the useless "Num Lock").
Unfortunately, if you install it, it apparently will disable using F keys to see all windows or the frontmost application windows. Binding one of those function in Exposé to a non-F key seems to work, though. Too bad...
