    February 27, 2012  |   By mcellis89

    Version: Doorkeeper 1.4

    Pros

It's Free, it does the job and has no spyware or spamy stuff.

    Cons

if there are any they are not worth mentioning.

    Summary

Thank You so much CMan. the button to my cd drive broke and I needed a software method to open/close my cd drive(mostly to close, since you can open them with windows but can't close, go figure).

"Yes it DOES work with Win7!"

    April 16, 2011  |   By chrisausten

    Version: Doorkeeper 1.4

    Pros

    Simple, works great.
Can "stay on top" of all open windows.

    Cons

    ***none***

    Summary

I have used this for a few years now and it is great.
I was using Vista, but just switched over to Win7 - 64....and yes it works with Win7, even on the 64 platform. BUT....after install you must right click on the application, click properties and set compatibility mode to Vista, then it will work just fine. -- I would give it 5 stars if it had more skins and the option to add extra sets of buttons for other drives.

"Does what it says. Could do it better though."

    January 16, 2009  |   By Thanos1

    Version: Doorkeeper 1.4

    Pros

It opens and closes the drive door, as advertised. Very small application, no overheard to hog resources. Very small- simple interface is just 3 buttons: Open/Close/Settings. Can even change the skins.

    Cons

Upon first use: When you minimize the app, it DISSAPPEARS. It does NOT show in the system tray. Hotkeys still worked. Using Task Manager, I killed the process. When I restarted the app, it showed in the system tray.

    Summary

It does what it says and is exactly what I needed. My computer sits low to the ground, and my front-panel USB is above the CD drive. This means I have cables that hang down in front of the drive: headphones, usb to external HDD, etc. When i'm gaming late at night in near darkness and try to fumble around for the button, I've gotten my watch snagged on cables a couple of times. Add to this the fact that my computer is low to the ground. Hitting the button to open the drive is fine, but when the drive is open it is difficult for me to get under the door to hit the button again to close the door. Having a hotkey or a simple interface on screen to control the drive has eliminated one of the few sources of annoyance from my computer. Also, I love that it has skins. For my computer and the lighting, I went with a black/neon-green theme (since most people seem to use blue LEDs). So the Matrix skin was perfect! THANKS!

PS: I originally gave this 3 stars since the app didn't show in the system tray. Having to CTRL+ALT+DEL, kill the process, then start the app again would have been more trouble than just using the button. Once it showed up in the system tray upon 2nd use, I upgraded it to 4 stars. I considered giving it 5 stars, but the slight hiccup upon first use prevented that. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, as the first-use hiccup may have been unique to my installation, and it only happened 1 time.

    "Doorkeeper works well"

    May 16, 2008  |   By rap9

    Version: Doorkeeper 1.4

    Pros

Doorkeeper provides on-screen buttons to open and close the CD drive door. It works very well. It does not get in the way on the screen, but is there when needed.

    Cons

To get to a second drive, doorkeeper requires that a key be held down while the buttons are selected. It would be nice to have 2 buttons for each of the drives so that this wouldn't be necessary.
