doesnt play all divx files and when it does they are slow. distributes shorts cuts all over your computer without asking for type of install wanted along with a buffet of other spyware programs. will not uninstall had to use malware file assasin to get rid of it. blocks most other players available on the market. causes explorer to crash frequently. i would rather spend the next ten years endureing chinese water torture than use this ever again

"Great for all DivX's"

Interface is simple. Great converter with easy adjustable options (aspect ratio, and even has a target size conversion!)
Cons
Player is slow to load up, and the screen/skin is not very "light".

Overall it's a great program. It does the DivX work easily. The converter is the best product. The player and web player could have some improvements.

Been using DivX since version 5 and never had any real issues. Version 7 worked great. 8 however, is a total mess. I always get worried when apps start wanting to install all sorts of other crap. This is one of them.
After install I found that it had blotted out my 7 install and I found my licence was no longer valid. NIce to have informed me of this when installing.
Anyway we continued and it just got worse. Error messages, less functionality, files wouldnt work after ripping, bits seem to be missing. But worst of all the performance is terrible. It wizzed through the first 10% of the encode, makes you think "wow this is great!" but then it just grinds to a halt. Took well over two hours to rip a average movie file. DivX 7 would take about 45 minutes on my PC (quad core/8GB etc.).
So we get the file ripped after two hours and then the player doesnt recognise it. Excuse me? Its a .divx file and DivX doesnt recognise it?
Versions 5, 6 and 7 managed this ok. Why not 8?
I notice that DivX's own support forum is closed for renovation and has been for a while. I wonder why??
I reckon version 8 is the last one we will ever see.
As for me? Uninstalled version 8 and put back 7. -

Yes it worked for a couple months for all the streaming movies I watch.

After 2 months approx. it quit working, said a plugin had crashed, so I added the Codec package from them. Then it stopped working altogether. It would not uninstall, or delete, so i had to install Malwarebytes program, just to use their File Assassi

It Installed scores of uninvited shortcuts on my desktop and start menu; without asking me it became the default player! Such invasive practices will never bring back clients and will not cultivate loyalty. I'll try the program again in another five years if it is still around.

I didn't really use it because, contrary to it's claims, it could not play what I loaded.

The install needs work. It doesn't terminate processes when the program is ended. Most of all, it doesn't work.

It is constantly complaining that it needs this codec or that video enhancement, and warning that it may not be able to handle things. "I thought I'd love it, but I had to kill it, and I can still hear it complain"!
