Cons
None yet for about a year
Summary
repaired a damaged Macally Hi-Speed eSATA/FireWire/USB 2.0 Storage Enclosure for 3.5-Inch SATA Hard Disk G-S350SUAB2 (Silver)
by Macallywith a wd caviar black internal hd
Mac owner for years but fairly new to this easy to use awesome imho program. Worth every penny. I use this because it does what disk utility for Mac cant do or I don't know how to make it do. I tried to repair my startup boot disk volume out of habit because I change stuff and go online sometimes. Disk utility Could not repair after i tried to on my MacBook pro. Then I ran disk warrior and now disk utility can repair ever since.....hmmmm so i think it's like this, disk warrior=disk utility's husband that she fully depends on in the hard times, for cereal! -
"An excellent repair and recovery utility - Must Have!"
Version: DiskWarrior 4.3
Pros
D.W. fixes directory damage that Apple's Disk Utility doesn't even detect. It has helped me completely recover hard drives and drive partitions that were otherwise either useless or fraught with unpredictable behavior. It never causes problems.
Cons
It can take a while to repair a large drive's directory. And like all such utilities, you can't run it on the disk from which you started up. I've used it for a decade and cannot think of a serious con.
Summary
You can't go wrong with this. Alsoft are superb mac programmers and this is one of the best utility programs ever. I have used it for almost every version of Mac OS (except Lion) and CPUs from the 68000 series up through Intel chips. It fixes things that other utilities miss or cannot fix, and it has never created a problem.

"Useless for Time Machine volumes"
Version: DiskWarrior 4.3
Pros
None, since it can't be used for its sole purpose, fixing corrupt directories.
Cons
Not supporting 64-bit memory address space
Summary
Even though Alsoft claim that Disk Warrior supports Time Machine volumes, in practice, this is not true. I have a TM-volume with about a year of daily (not even hourly as is the default backup frequency in Time Machine) backups where the directory become corrupt.
DW fails to even analyze this volume (disk image) because it runs out of memory before the analyze is done. The problem is that DW has a Carbon GUI and hence is limited to address something like 2.7 GB memory (yes it is not even a full 32 bit address space) and the directory on my volume is around 5 GB in size.
If my volume was extremely large or something this could maybe be excused for being an extreme case but that is not the situation. In fact, the opposite is true. It is an extremely *small* volume for being a Time Machine volume: the source for backup is a Macbook Pro with just 120 GB hard drive space (and as I mentioned above, about a year of infrequent backups).
That is the reason for my conclusion that in practice DW does not support Time Machine volumes.

"Saved Me !"
Version: DiskWarrior 4.2
Pros
Easy to use, and does what it claims to do.
Cons
A little pricey (but worth it).
Summary
I managed to corrupt my external hard drive so that my iMac (OS 10.6.3) would not even recognize it, and Disk Utility could not repair it. Bought Disk Warrior online, downloaded and installed it with no difficulty. When I started it up, it immediately showed the problem drive, and said it was ready to be repaired. I clicked continue, and Disk Warrior did all the rest. The drive is completely recovered, all my photos and files intact.
Total time, including the purchase and download and disk repair was under 1 hour.
Life is good again. -
"saved my 500GB laptop drive"
Version: DiskWarrior 4.2
Pros
diskwarrior saved me
Cons
no demo, but absolutely invaluable
Summary
even with no demo, research online and everyone that owns it agrees it's worth the cost!
-
"This app has saved by data more times than I can count."
Version: DiskWarrior 4.2
Pros
Often seems to be the only utility app that resolves my drive's problems.
Cons
Sine it often requires a boot disc based solution, upgrading from version to version is a bit complicated. (still worth the effort)
Summary
My 1 "must have" app
-
"Does not work"
Version: DiskWarrior 4.2
Pros
None. I can not think of one.
Cons
No demo. Expensive.
Summary
It did not work for me. They should have a demo version. Disk Warrior does not work

"I'm not a software executive, but..."
Version: DiskWarrior 4.1.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Suppose I have a program that is used by a lot of devoted friends who have gmail email accounts. Suppose I have a staff that suggests we only sell downloaded software to those customers who DO NOT have gmail email accounts. How long would it take me to fire them? It is truly amazing that the people who make this excellent product cannot figure out how to send such a small program over the Internet, as a great number of suppliers do, so those of us who DO use gmail exclusively can pay them money, and buy their product. I beggars the imagination.
