    "Very Pleased"

    March 15, 2006  |   By alinder1

    Version: DiskPatch 2.1

    Pros

This product did the trick in recovering my 'lost' partition. After booting the floppy, the program scans a disk of your choice. You then select which partitions you want and DiskPatch repairs the MBR and boot sectors of each. Also, the email support I received before purchasing the product was outstanding!

    Cons

They have a standard version and a more expensive pro version. Though they recommend the pro, in my case the standard did the trick. Not clear on what the pro does for you.

"SAVED MY BACON ON A BUDGET"

    October 29, 2005  |   By extremely satisfied

    Version: DiskPatch 2.1

    Pros

What program will restore dynamic drives and cost this small amount? This program is minimally priced at $29 for the basic package which is essentially most of what partition magic will do for $69 without some bells and whistles. That's a $40 dollar savings. It will clone disks and do much more in the professional version which does it all for $49. The cloning function would cost another $69 if you purchased Ghost! So for roughly $90 dollars less you get nearly all the functionality of two Symantec products. It took twenty minutes to restore a lost dynamic partition into a new basic partition. I thought was doomed to lose the information (due to my own stupidity of not backing up properly) or pay through the nose for a more expensive utility or a professional service to restore it. Buy this simple little wonder disk.

    Cons

The program runs only in DOS from a floppy (It will use FREEDOS or your own boot software and does allow some failsafe options for booting). It will do all sorts of drives and formats but it might not look apparent from the interface. The interface is archaic but still to me never judge a book by its cover, because it's powerful and can even allow hex editing of the drive info. Even though it can only work from DOS which is a pain if you haven't completely crashed or are working on an ancillary drive to your main drive, on the other hand if it is your main drive you need not reinstall windows to use it if you've lost or failed to make recovery disks. There is no resizing of partitions only in the cloning and there is no mouse support.

"Unfortunately I first tried the rest of them ..."

    November 19, 2004  |   By Rambootje

    Version: DiskPatch 2.0

    Summary

Today disaster struck! Don't ask me how, but all partitions (8 in total) disappeared. It was as if they were never there. The start of a frustrating journey in the land of partition table recovery. I tried them all (at least most of them I think)...

    * Active@partitionrecovery, fast yes, only was capable of recovering a few primary partitions. If didn't even try to scan the disk ... logical partitions remained undetected. Was the next best contender but didn't even come close to the winner.

    * Partition table doctor, unusable because of interface problems. Impression: crappy.

    * Bootmaster only recovered my primary partitions (not actually recovered, but in program, post recovery list showed only my primaries.

    * Recovery Expert, did NOT see the physical disk! Quite an expert indeed.

    * Media Tools ... too bloody expensive, so not tried.

    * PartitionMagic 8.0 ... started and quit again with an error message ...

    * Hardrive Mechanic ... no demo version.

    * And then, DiskPatch! Took longest to scan the disk (about 15 mins for my 80 Gb disk), but was the only one that actually scanned the entire disk and didn't bother me during the scan, "I found this and I found that", like the others! Then when it's done scanning, you get the complete list of all partitions (rather than being prompted during the scan all the time) which you can then carefully review. Which is cool because I am new to this and don't want to be rushed into mistakes.

As soon a I selected my first partition, it automatically 'flagged' (puts a little hard to see arrow next to them) all partitions it thought I should select as well. And so I did. DiskPatch did it's magic and recover ALL my partitions!

I then immediately used the DiskPatch partition table backup feature to secure all partition information. I am now prepared for future disasters.

I am impressed! DiskPatch was in fact the only expert doctor active@ partition recovery :-)
