"Split MP3 files into smaller ones in under 10 seconds"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
Speedy 1.5GB audio book file splint in 10 seconds. As a novice with type software, could easily set up file splits, Haven't tried custom splits yet. (Once you buy their Splitter, they send you a discount ooupon for the Joiner program) No buzz, click or hum.
Cons
None known.
Summary
Program does what it's supposed to do efficiently, intuitively, without drama, in excellent time

"Hated it. I need graphical options, not twiddly hybrids"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
Did complicated MP3 stuff I couldnt do for myself, "for free".
Worked out of the box without tutorials.
Speed impressive.
Optimized for automated splitting.
Plus more menus+stuff for fiddly MP3-type bother I'll [hopefully] never ever look at.Cons
Antique part-graphic/part-numeric interface for creating user-identified split locations ... it's a stone-slow-drag. Pass.
Summary
Maybe I should stay with Macs for A/V.
But sometimes I need something similar for Windows.
So my expectations could be unreasonable for Windows circa 2012.
This program seems to be 10-year-old legacy swag.
Functional enuf on the inside - but outside, a cipher.
Unless you're content to do automated splitting full-time,
the interface is sub-par. -
"This software works very nicely"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
Easy to use, smooth execution, and stable, great software.
Cons
Resulting file worked great but indicated a longer playing time than it actually was.

"Does what it says on the tin!"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
It's simple and easy to use.
Very nice little programme.Cons
None. Absoltely nothing wrong with this.
Summary
There's nothing I can say bad about this. I leave my radio recording for about an hour or so. Then take the hour long recording and bring it into this.. trim off the bad and I keep what I like.
Excellent little programme. -
"Works great for big audiobooks"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
broke the mp3s into manageable size segments
Cons
too many steps to get the job done
Summary
Works great. I use it often.

"Nice program, but dead in the water since version 2.6"
Version: Direct WAV MP3 Splitter 2.7.0.25
Pros
Still does a fair job of splitting large MP3 files. More or less functional utility program.
Cons
Occasionally Pause by Detection doesn't split in right location - file split in middle of sound, actual pause was just before or after split. Works for the most part, fails often enough to be annoying. On this basis, paid version is overpriced.
Summary
Pros and cons spell out basic functionality of this program. Another con is that **according to the upgrade notes** this program has been dead in the water since version 2.6. The upgrade notes for 2.6, 2.7.0.24 and 2.7.0.25 have been exactly the same: "Version N features: minimum Sound Duration added to Pause Detection; ability to work with files up to 999 hours; correct read/write CUE files Artist/Album tags." In fact, Minimum Silence (not Minimum Sound Duration, which was already there) has been added since 2.6. This carelessness on the part of the developers, plus the occasional failure of Split by Pause Detection, makes shopping around for similar programs a good idea.
UPDATE 04/25/2011
Updated on Apr 25, 2011
Since submitting the original review, I've determined that version 2.7.0.25 produces corrupt MP3 headers at many split locations. If I could reduce the rating to 0 stars at this point, I would.
