"This is a great way to begin planning dinners!"
Version: DinnerWiz 2.11
Pros
It has several things going for it:
you can add or delete dishes easily,
you can make the dish description as detailed as you want to, and
you can decide which day of the week you want to serve that particular dish.Cons
None that I can see so far! If you're expecting it to give you shopping lists or details, it isn't designed for that. It's merely a tool for getting your menu planning started.
Summary
This is a good tool for those of us who don't like to sit down and actually "plan" the weekly menu. You don't have to accept what pops up; you might even remember a couple dishes you'd like to have instead - and that's all right. It's more of a tickler tool than anything else. I recommend it to anyone who hates to "plan" menus.
The one thing that I didn't see immediately, but it isn't a deal breaker: You must remember to press "OK" and shut it down occasionally. In other programs, this would be the equivalent of backing up your files. If you don't, it shuts down on its own and you can lose up to 75% of the work you just put in. So shut it down about every 10 minutes or so to save your work.
The one thing you will have to do, however, is take the time to fill in what you like to eat. He puts in several dishes to get you started, and you can delete them or improve them to your taste. (For example: he had "Pot Roast"; I added "w/ potatoes & carrots" and the system didn't have a problem with it.) Simply add all the meals you like to cook, you know how to cook or that you want to eat now and then.
There are no judgments here; if you want to put in "Breakfast for Supper" then do so. If you want to leave pot roast as just that and figure out later what to cook with it, that's perfectly okay.
