"Great, but not for newbies"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
I can understand why programmers that have used only rich-GUI IDE's would have problems using this compiler, as it's just command-line and has no built-in editor. More advanced programmers, though, will love this thing- It's easy to use and very fast.
Suggestions for newbies:
Adding the compiler path to the environmental variables on your PC makes this program MUCH easier to use. Also, download a good free editor like notepad++ or source edit from this site, and you're ready to roll! -
"Stable compiler"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
If you're looking for a colored-XP-themed IDE, don't bother. If you are a programmer than can invoke a command line, download it and TRY it (I mean really try it).
I don't understand the negative reviews as "no UI", "no IDE" etc. Every compiler - including MSVC - does cl /whatever /ofile.obj file.cpp, only it displays it in an IDE (not a simple process, by the way). So I have to write:
THIS IS A COMPILER NOT AN IDE.
If you want to write a review for a compiler, check the parameters' capabilities, linking with .obj produced by other compilers, portability, C/C++ standards, libraries, try to build Mozilla with it :D etc. But please, don't come with "I don't know how to invoke a command line", "it does not have a 33 GB MSDN" or does not have an IDE. -
"You said this works?"

"nice compiler"

"A fine Win32 C++ Compiler for the Price"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
This is an outstanding compiler with features and capabilities equal (or better) to C++ compilers avialable on Crays, DEC Wildfires and SGIs running UNIX. It will compile C/C++ code I have written over the past 15 years on my XP OS. Not hard to use, very fast compilation, and in my experience very stable and reliable. This is a good compiler to teach my young adults how to program in C++ (or C) on my PC at home. For the price this distribution is a bargin.

"Best C++ compiler for Windows"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
In my particular experience with many different C++ compilers, this one is the best one. You must also try D Programming Language (also available from Digital Mars), since D is even better than C++, Java, C#, etc.

"Superb"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
Very fast compilation, highly recommended. Disregard comments saying that it doesn't work. I managed to compile C and C++ apps easily.

"Didn't work"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
I did as it said in the readme-file with my simple 'test.cpp' file, still it created only a link and an .OBJ-file. No .EXE-file.
Meh, I wanted the .EXE.
From now on I'll just use visual C++ compiler to my C++ files as well -
"lightning fast compilation times"
Version: Digital Mars C/C++ Compiler 8.29
Summary
For free Win32 c and c++ compilers, this has got to be the cream of the crop. I've used gcc (mingw32) and borland, but this compiler blows them away in terms of performance. Walter Bright updates the compiler often, and has been providing enhanced support for template programming, there's even a library which wraps many Microsoft libraries with template implementations. For those who care, you also get access to all the source code.
