System administrators will find this tool useful for controlling users' access to any PC device, including hard and removable disks, serial or parallel ports, and FireWire or Wi-Fi ports. You can deny access to any device or just disable, eject, or format. You can limit access to certain days of the week or hours of the day. With the new Temporary White List feature, administrators can give users codes that briefly unlock USB devices on nonnetworked computers. The austere interface of DeviceLock is handy, although the time-picking control doesn't allow you to choose several hours at once. The Batch Permissions function, which sets permissions for multiple PCs and users at once, may save sysadmins a lot of time. If you forget what users have what privileges, the program can give you a detailed report. DeviceLock is a useful tool for corporate users who want to protect their network devices against intruders or malicious programs that invade via removable drives or unused ports.

Using DeviceLock from SmartLine, you can lock out unauthorized users from USB and FireWire devices, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters, CD-ROM and floppy drives, serial and parallel ports, and many other plug-and-play devices. You can define a discrete list of accounts that are able to administer (install, uninstall, modify permissions, and other settings). Even users with local administrator privileges can't disable DeviceLock service or remove it from their computers, if they are not in this list of DeviceLock administrators.

Version 6.3 build 14610 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
