Dev-C++ is a full-featured Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the C/C++ programming language. It uses Mingw port of GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) as its compiler. It creates native Win32 executables, either console or GUI. Dev-C++ can also be used in combination with Cygwin.
Dev-C++ is Free Software (also referred as Open Source), and is written in Delphi.
2014 release seems to install correctly from CNET.com.
Seems to compile C console and windows programs.
Nice IDE. Able to use C programs immediately after install.
After online install, I can not compile even a simple C++ console program. I receive this error message: "fatal error: <iostream.h> not such file or directory"
I downloaded this C/C++ compiler, (Orwell Dev-C++, 2014 release, from this site), because I wanted to be able to do some simple programs in C++. My system is Win 7.0 64-bit, 2GB mem, and 250 GB hard drive.
The fact that <iostream.h>, an essential C++ .h file, is absent makes me wonder what other files that are needed for C++ are missing.
Please DO NOT rate this software based on your missing C++ knowledge. The header <iostream.h> is deprecated since at least 15 years. The headers name really is <iostream>. No modern compiler will be required to support the old .h extensions to the standard library any more.
This piece of software is a relic of older times and is no longer necessary given the range of superior alternatives now available for free. Dev-C++ has not been updated for years, and the numerous bugs present in the package will therefore NEVER be fixed.
No person new to programming should download this package.
