From Bloodshed Software: Dev-C++ is a full-featured Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the C/C++ programming language. It uses Mingw port of GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) as its compiler. It creates native Win32 executables, either console or GUI. Dev-C++ can also be used in combination with Cygwin.
Dev-C++ is Free Software (also referred as Open Source), and is written in Delphi.

can't tell yet, since it has a virus

this i.d.e is infected with IDP.ADWARE. Suppose to get some programming done for my assignment, but now I have to delay the process, due to a lousy virus

they say it works only on win xp and previous versions but the thing is it works fine on windows7 32 and even 64 bit....:)

It does a good job when it doesn't crash, easy to use, and helpful, but...

It crashes frequently, for no apparent reason, I'm typing in a line, and then it freezes and never comes out of it.
Summary
If there was someone working on these bugs and updated it to fix them, it'd be great, however, right now, its a little bugged and I'm going to find a new program to use.

This piece of software is a relic of older times and is no longer necessary given the range of superior alternatives now available for free. Dev-C++ has not been updated for years, and the numerous bugs present in the package will therefore NEVER be fixed.
No person new to programming should download this package. -

It's fast and very portable. I carry it on my thumb drive and have used it on this home computer running W7 and have used it at school last year for my C++ class on computers running Vista.

Maybe it's just nothing. Could be my inexperience with coding in C

I would like it to stop crashing so frequently. I don't think I've ever encountered such completely unreliable software.

It is so bad it's unprofessional.
Summary
DEVC is abandonware. The author has given up on it. There is no chance of the bugs ever being fixed.
