"A great game with a clever concept"
Version: Deus Ex demo
Summary
Why nobody really thought of a Deus Ex style game before is beyond me. The game is basically a blend of action, first person shooter, and rpg, which works out very nicely. A strong point of the game is that there are usually several ways to finish a mission- this means that a player can suit the game to his own taste- he can choose whether to be tactical, to be stealthy, or to go around shooting everything in sight. Furthermore, the player can choose which "skills" to improve throughout the game and which augs to install, all of which add to the replay value of the game.
The only real problem with the game is its outdated graphics- textures are simple, polygon count is low, character animation is admittedly quite bad. Also, the execution of Ion Storm's new concepts was not perfect, and skills such as hacking and lock picking are a bit too easy...
But don't let this stop you- these are the only problems in the game. Overall, Deus Ex is a fantastic, original game, which offers hours and hours of nonstop fun and great replayability. Indeed, that is why it has won GAME OF THE YEAR by so many respectable sources. My reccomendation: a must buy!
An aside: Some people say the AI is not difficult enough. However, this is on an "easy" or "medium" setting, and, unlike most games, the AI becomes more advanced at higher difficulty levels... -
"Completely addictive, sucks you right in"
Version: Deus Ex demo
Summary
My roommate had it, so I tried it. On the first couple times, I had a blast, but stopped myself after a few hours. On the third go (also the third day of playing it), I ended up playing for about 36 hours (without stopping at all) before I could make myself stop. This has to be the best game of its general type I have ever played, period. The only negative thing I can think of is that the graphics and sound are a little outdated. May the gods have mercy on me (and all other gamers) when Deus Ex 2 comes out.

"Shut Up And Buy It"
Version: Deus Ex demo
Summary
It's really bad that everyone complains about how long it takes to download, get out of the stone age, losers. Deus Ex is a GREAT game worthy of buying (get the GOTY edition). While the graphics aren't top notch and the AI isn't Half-Life caliber, the sound is cool and hacking is fun. Tension and immersion keep you "in" this game. Great stuff and I can't wait for DX2

"Absolutely Fabulous Game !!"
Version: Deus Ex demo
Summary
This is the type of game that once I start playing, I can't stop. Fantastic storyline and
great gameplay, Deus Ex is a PC game classic for sure. Be sure and
drop by www.planetdeusex.com and
keep your eyes open for a couple of great mods in the making called
Zodiac and Redsun 2020. I've played the first mission of Zodiac
and it was fantastic. I have the full version of Deus Ex and if you haven't played the mission where JC has to bust out of the detention center, then you don't know what you're missing. -

"Outstanding game that defies categorization"
Version: Deus Ex demo
Summary
This has to be the best game I have EVER played. Like System Shock 2, the game is a FPS/RPG/Adventure hybrid
A very complex cyberpunk storyline, reminiscent of movies like Escape From New York and Blade Runner, and novels like Neuromancer (with the main character looking suspiciously like Wesley Snipes in Blade). Also, lots of interesting characters, most of which you can talk to, non-linear mission design allowing for near-infinite replayability (there's never just one way to accomplish a given mission; usually there are several ways to handle things). Do you sneak your way in, or do you play it Rambo? Are you a killer, or do you prefer a non-violent approach? Do you hack the security system, or do you just blow everything to smithereens? It's all up to you.
The graphics are fine - nothing exceptional, but then again the game is at least 2 years old, so what do you expect?
BTW, a lot of people have commented on the "bad" voice acting, the lead character's in particular, but they're missing the point completely. I have a lot of reason to believe his monotone voice was very much *intentional*. If you play the tutorial - and you really should - at some point someone mentions your outward seeming lack of emotion. -
