"LabelsAndCardsPro 1.9.2"

December 10, 2004  |  By lugnurd

 |  Version: Labels and Cards Pro 1.9.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Outstanding support a week ago I sent the following email to: info@metisinternational.com

â??Re: LabelsAndCardsPro 1.9.1

Two releases ago (version 1.8.9) you added "Preferences > Application Font added." This made me very happy! However this feature has not worked (Broken) in your last two releases.

The ability to select a default font puts LabelsAndCardsPro ahead of the competition. Please fix.

Suggestion: Adding Default Font "Point Size" would be a great time saver and put LabelsAndCardsPro way ahead of the competition.

Thank you! If I can help you in anyway please feel free to contact me. Keep up the good work.â??

One week later: LabelsAndCardsPro 1.9.2

Whatâ??s New: Preferences>Application Font Size added. (to use select size, then click Make Default to make this application preference.

Thank you!

Nothing but praise for this app. Still provides the absolute best business solution of any app made for the Mac when it comes to labels and envelopes.

"L&CP is one of the"

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
best of its kind... period. Over the past 20-years there has been nothing--from anyone-- that comes close to what LCP does. It gets better with each release. I know because I've been using this program for a very long time. With the exception of only one or two developers for this type of software, all other programs are a slap in the face to the Mac user. Moreover, Avery is the worst culprit. Avery no longer even supports Mac users with a decent app. Even then it was a bare-bones app that was really poor in many ways. (FYI, if you want far less expensive labels than Avery, that are first rate,: Go to "LabelMatch.) On the PC side of the isle there are many great programs of this type, but the Mac community is treated like a fart in a bucket for great label software. It's not so much of 'oh my' a mediocre label program for the Mac--thank you-thank you very much, but rather this is a very good program and you'll only do better on the PC side of the isle. Even there, this would be a good program.Yes, MS Word has some really nice labeling built-in, but as a single 'sole purpose app' this, indeed, is truly a good program.

"Still a Value for the Money"

Summary

I still believe this is a true software value for what it does and the its price. It can be used for business purposes as well as personal. I'm not running each a server and I am registered user, so for me it has consistently been improved with each release. Tailoring everything to one's need takes some time, but once accomplished this app does provide substantial amounts of serious features.

"Panther: no worky"

January 01, 2004  |  By Bytesmiths

 |  Version: DesktopLabels Deluxe 1.7.6

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.

I would like to give this a higher rating, but everything is predicated upon being able to use it when one needs to, no?

I paid for it in October 2003, happy that someone had finally filled the void left by MacLabelPro. But it was barely stable enough to print one sheet of labels!

I dusted it off recently, in dire need. (Let's face it, this isn't a program most people find daily use for.) It inserted random characters on the label that it wouldn't let me delete. When I tried to print, it froze. When I force-quit and re-started, it reported that another copy with the same serial number was in use, and would only run in demo mode. Ah yes, "IP Rights Protection" at its finest!

Cooling my heels, I thought, "I should go to their website and see if there are any updates." AHA! They are apparently up to 1.7.9! (I'm reviewing 1.7.6.) But the site won't let you download the update, although you can if you pay again!

If they think they're going to extract another $19.95 from me, they're nuts. I've already wasted more time on this than it would have taken to lay out a simple AppleWorks template for my labels.

Overall, lack of stability damns this product. I'd be happy to boost "Ease of Use," "Features," and "Price" ratings, except that it won't work long enough for me to decide it was easy to use or had features. And how can one say a useless product is worth ANY price?

I hope to come back and review the latest version, if they ever let their loyal, paid users have access to it. This product is an example of everything bad about so-called "shareware." In this case, it's more appropriately called "demoware" or "crippleware," since even legit users are locked out and treated like theives when it crashes.

"Getting Better!"

June 10, 2003  |  By DuaneD

 |  Version: DesktopLabels Deluxe 1.7.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Would like to change my rating. It works very well now. I do have a couple suggestions for improvements.

I would like to see the contents of the increment field on the screen without having to click on it. Also, it would be nice if it saved the last increment instead of reverting back to the starting number. Example: I want it to increment from 484 (by one number each) and print 5 labels. If I print another five I get from 484 to 488 again. I would like it to start at 489 (having auto incremented and saved at the next number).

I would like to be able to make the fields smaller without the text dissapearing. The size of the field limmits how much I can put on a label. Right now I can't fit as many fields on as I could in maclabel. If I make one big field and put several lines in, all the text fits the same though.

It would be nice to have a print button instead of having to go File>Print>Print Label or Command-P. (this is not my peav, I work with several finicky people and I know this will be an issue)

This program works so well right now though, it deserves 4 stars and would get a fifth if they fixed the above issues.
