"The only one I found with a interactive map"
Version: Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel 6.0.0.25
Pros
The best feature is the interactive map, when animated can show you which direction the storm is going and whether it will increase in size or fade out before it reaches you.
Cons
Annoying ads, can't get something for free without sacrafice and this latest version has an ad with a script error issue. Ad is Allstate. When it shows up and u press any button, error message pops up and to get rid of it u need to close the program
Summary
This is a great program like any other software there will be bugs in the system it takes time in locating them and then to send the update to the software. Here is the script error message from that ad.
I've been told that the error is fixed in this version of weather desktop v6.00.25. to tell the truth, it has not, i'm using v6.00.25 and tried using desktop a minute ago and the script error still comes up. i guess i won't be using weather channel desktop v6.00.25 until a fix or an update appears. by the way i'm using microsoft windows 7 ultimate.
An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
Yes or No
Doesn't matter if you hit Yes or No the error message won't close unless you close the program.
Hope they see this and fix the problem.

"Too many problems to be worthwhile"
Version: Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel 6.0.0.25
Pros
Nice display with alert pop ups.
Cons
Hangs up while trying to run map in motion. Get script errors that require shutdown of the program to get out of them.
Summary
Even though the program is useful, it is not "ready for prime time". Too much aggravation trying to keep it running without script errors. This happens with Windows Vista.

"Great, but the ads are crazy"
Version: Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel 6.0.0.25
Pros
There's a tornado coming.
Cons
-Make sure to NOT install the ASK toolbar, AGREE to install Weather.com, DECLINE all the other offers, or your PC will be cluttered and infected when you click on the links of the newly unapproved third-party software.
-Stupid ads are memory hoggers.Summary
Here's a little loophole to block those ads if you don't have a specific adblock for IE: Content advisor in your Internet Options. Block the link http://dw.weather.com/services/dwzeus/dw6/index_f.html?installid=1262588603&instby=desktopsp2&cobrand=zweather&prodcode=20&appver=60025 in content advisor, and then it won't load (but it will have an annoying content advisor popup... which do you prefer?

"This is a bug-riddled, poor-performing product"
Version: Desktop Weather by The Weather Channel 6.0.0.25
Pros
Decent interface. Acceptable weather information when it works.
Cons
Too many to list here. See Summary below.
Summary
Here are just some of the cons:
1) Regular Internet Explorer scripting errors, most of which prevent the product from being able to start up.
2) A constant barrage of annoying ads, some of which actually block crucial weather information from view and can't be removed!
3) Looking like it's running when it's actually stopped working, i.e., it's not updating any weather information. Closing it and restarting it usually fixes the problem, but it's almost impossible to tell that the problem is occurring.
4) Various startup failures, some lasting for days.
5) It annoyingly issues almost daily the same cell phone usage survey.
6) Not much selection when it comes to settings. It allows you to select preventing it from starting up automatically only when you attempt to uninstall it. It makes no sense that this isn't a standard setting.
7) It only works with Internet Explorer. If your default browser is not Internet Explorer, it will only use Internet Explorer for all of its links and surveys, not your default browser. If you don't have Internet Explorer installed, I don't know what it will do.
I have been using The Weather Channel Desktop for years, and I am finally fed up with its poor performance, unreliability, non-existent support, and barrage of annoying ads and survey requests. For such a prestigious weather institution, The Weather Channel has had a consistently poor desktop weather product, and trying to obtain support is impossible, even though it is allegedly offered. I know because I tried on several occasions. Use Weather Exchange instead of The Weather Channel Desktop. -
