Editors' review

There are any number of utilities out there that can quickly and easily convert a variety of file formats into PDFs, so there's no reason to settle for one that doesn't quite meet your needs. DeskPDF Pro combines an efficient drag-and-drop interface with some useful features, but the limitations of the trial version are significant, and there are free programs with many of the same features.

Once installed, DeskPDF Pro appears as an icon in the Windows system tray; clicking it brings up a small interface onto which users can drag files for conversion. This launches a window in which users can browse to the desired destination location and configure the conversion options; clicking the Advanced check box opens an expanded menu with tools for adding metadata, changing security settings, and customizing the way the PDF is displayed. DeskPDF Pro can convert files to either PDF or PS formats, and users can have the program save the new file in the location of their choice or e-mail it. The program comes with a thorough PDF Users Guide, but most users should be able to figure out its features without too much guidance. Although we liked DeskPDF Pro overall -- it was easy to use and gave us plenty of control over the conversion process -- the trial version of the program only allows users to convert five files before it starts placing watermarks on the bottom of each page. The program works well and is worth trying out, but if you're willing to spend some time shopping around, you're likely to find programs with similar capabilities for free.

DeskPDF Pro installs politely but leaves a folder behind upon removal.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of DeskPDF Pro 2012.

"Most features don't work, and support is none existent."

    March 02, 2014   |   By dgol09

    Version: DeskPDF Creator 2012

    Pros

PDF viewer, thats it. And not even as good as Adobe Acrobat Free.

    Cons

Most features don't work. I have the latest version of their flagship product. Other than simply viewing PDFs, almost every feature crashes or simply does nothing. I have complained to support and someone always says their sorry to hear about my problems and an update is coming out soon. I have had several updates and not one problem has been fixed.

    Summary

If the features actually worked it would be a great program. As it is, it is worthless. DO NOT BUY!!!!

"Couldn't do anything with it - more see below"

    December 12, 2013   |   By theTruth1024

    Version: DeskPDF Creator 2012

    Pros

None - nothing worked - wouldn't uninstall properly.

    Cons

None of the features worked properly (at least in the trial version). Worst part was I couldn't uninstall the software completely. After uninstall pop-up box said:
    "deskPDF Creator X uninstall complete.
Some elements could not be removed. These can be
removed manually." I tried reinstalling and uninstalling again. It still left garbage on my computer- like the printPDF and the folder with deskPDF.exe in it. I had to manually stop the process (which was using RAM but doing nothing) and shred the file. There are probably still registry settings (that I don't want to mess with) there.

    Summary

Had to install deskPDF Studio X and uninstall it to get rid of the printer driver, but had to shred deskPDF.exe.

Doesn't play nice with windows add/remove programs, or its own uninstaller.

"Not friendly, doesn't do much, Acrobat not much more $"

    August 21, 2013   |   By MarkBiomedical

    Version: DeskPDF Creator 2012

    Pros

We used it to sign a number of documents. It functions and the sellers are nice and easy to reach.

    Cons

Weak and unfriendly. Buggy. Does a tiny fraction of what acrobat does for 70% of the price. Fields are hard to place. Graphics are sloppy and always on top. Resizing makes a mess. You have to undo as you can not edit objects you place. Used for a couple years waiting for something to change and new versions are the same as the old versions.

    Summary

Baffling set of products. They could not explain what I needed for different tasks so I bought it all and use one thing for this, another for that. Windows 8 does not like the products. Windows 7 was more forgiving. Can't use as default viewer as it conflicts with too many programs.

    "Excellent pdf creator"

    August 19, 2013   |   By lifesgoodinca

    Version: DeskPDF Creator 2012

    Pros

Can print a pdf from all of my applications. The pdf files take less disk space when I compare with some applications which have a built-in print-to-pdf option. Very easy to install and use: I simply go to PRINT and select deskPDF as the printer. I can also add to a pdf which I already created by creating a new first or last page. I have used this application since March 2006 and have always had good results. When I need Customer Support, I always manage to reach someone who speaks English, is courteous, and provides a quick reply.

    Cons

I have nothing negative to say.

    Summary

Anexcellent, low-cost application which works very well. Courteous and fast ustomer Support is a big plus and certainly a welcome change when compared to most other software companies :-)
