"Very happy with Library"
Version: Delicious Library 1.0.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried a huge number of other CD and DVD cataloguing apps and even paid and registered for one of them. But none of them were as consistently impressive as Library. There are areas for improvement, but the overall usability and utility of Library is way way better than any of the other apps I tried.
For someone with a serious collection, the effect of being able to enter an entire shelf of CDs by simply spending five minutes holding them up in front of my iSight one by one is intoxicating.
The interface shows attention to detail and the simplicity and usability is reminiscent of Apple's iApps.
As with all apps, this may not be an app that meets your individual needs or preferences, but it is without a doubt a very fine piece of software. Highly recommended. -
"this is good stuff"

As mentioned by others, this is still 1.0 software. Are there things to change, features to add - of course! (Send suggestions to the creators.) But rarely do you open a new application and find something this useful and well thought out. Seriously, to organize and track your collections, for loaning treasured items to friends, for info at your fingertips - this is a GREAT idea and a good first version. Well worth the price in my book. If Apple is watching they will buy this company/software IMMEDIATELY for integration into their other apps. -
"Great Stuff!"

I've been using Delicious Library for months both as a beta tester and now as a user, and this is great software.
Between the innovative and intuitive UI and the great functionality, this is excellent software - I simply can't believe some of the reviews that I've been reading. One star? Give me a break.Certainly there's some version 1.0 issues but it's being worked on by a responsive developer. Delicious Library has been a solid performer for me and a great addition to my mac

I fully agree with the previous comments.
Who needs iSight bar code support? I need more online sources than amazon.com! -
"Really disappointed :( !"
Version: Delicious Library 1.0.5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Painfully slow
+ Hardly useful for non-US-based users
+ Overly bound to Amazon's services
+ Almost unable to be relevant on most of my DVD look-ups (and it adds the odd result in the "Books" section!)
+ Near-zero usability
+ Buggy & Crashy
= How could this have won so great articles and awards??? They might have tested another build... (or they've simply been focused on the *great* iSight support!)
OK, the effort is to be praised; but it's not usable yet. And the $40 price is a total joke when there's free alternatives (Books, fennel DVDManager, etc.) which support International users!
Please revise your copy; I don't understand all the buzz around this, really. -
"Lacks important features"
Version: Delicious Library 1.0
Summary

Very sparse on the features. I find it rather insulting that someone thinks I will buy their program just because it looks prettier than the competition. $40 is very overpriced. Considering they do not allow you to enter your own Amazon associate code for the links, this software really should be $10 or free.
Also, the graphics for the CDs show the little tabs that hold the booklet in place, but in Real Lifeâ?¢, those tabs are BEHIND the booklet and so not visible at all. Has no one else pointed this out before?? I even read the beta review where macnet was saying how cool this was and i thought for sure they will realize their mistake. Nope. Funny.
No Library of Congress lookup. No emails sent to borrowers when books are nearing due or overdue. Can only add borrowers from people within your Address Book.
I can not recommend this software, primarily because of the price. It's a nice 'proof-of-concept', but nothing more. -
"Just plain FUN!"

I just bought Delicious Library and proceeded to catalog all my books, music CDs, and commercial software. I had a ball! I just passed each book in front of the iSight camera and it read the UPC barcode, downloaded the books title, cover page art and other information from Amazon.com. It even spoke each title while doing it. Now thatâ??s the way to do data entry. It can also lookup items by manually entering either UPC, ISBN, or title.
It found all but a few of my old books and about three-fourths of my CDs. I used a scanner and manual data entry on the missing ones. It only found about a half of my games and commercial software using the UPC code however. The workaround was easy though â?? I just looked up a product, e.g. Photoshop 7 or Kid Pix, in Amazon.com then dragged the URL from Safari to the Delicious Library window. It copied the artwork and product data just like it did for books.
You can sort your files six ways from Sunday. The printout lists includes artwork for each item. No one really needs this product but its just pretty, fun, and cool!

"This is an amazing program!"

I read about this program before it was released and I have been waiting to get my hands on it and try it out. It works INCREDIBLY well! I keep a collection of DVDs at my edit suite and my colleagues occasionally want to borrow one for the weekend. This is SO much better than a sign out sheet. The developers emailed me back promptly after I submitted a feature request, so they seem pretty responsive. -
"Really cool app!"

This programme is a treat to use, particularly for DVDs. With almost every DVD and VHS tape that I held up to my iSight, the programme quickly found a match on Amazon.com. I have had more trouble with books and CDs:music and books in Canada often have different bar codes from their US and European counterparts. Unfortunately, Amazon.ca does not use XML, so the programme is not yet able to tap their list. With CDs, it may be my choice of music: I have a lot of early music, French Baroque, and Canadian folk. Even so, I was so impressed when I tried this programme out that I decided within 5 minutes that I had to buy it, $40 or no $40! -
"This program rocks"

It's not perfect yet, but it's getting there fast. I have a massive library of over 1600 DVDs, 1000 CDs, etc., and it does a great job of inputting, displaying and sorting them. The developers are really responsive (they added in International support a day after launch), so I'm confident that this program will just keep getting better and better.
