    "This is awesome!"

    August 18, 2010  |   By Pcramedic

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 3.06

    Pros

It blocks all downloads from browsers. It also allows you to stop all untrusted processes in 1 click.

    Cons

If you put a browser in the trusted category it will consider all downloads trusted as well.

    Summary

This is a great product, and it will rival conventional security software by 2012 is my prediction.

    "Caution - Apparently crashed my Win 7 32-bit O/S"

    May 5, 2010  |   By MossyRock

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.45

    Pros

Seemed to be good in theory

    Cons

It appears to have hosed my O/S to the point of needing a bare-metal restore.

    Summary

My system has been rock solid and stable since I built it. I installed DefenseWall five days ago and noticed, little by little, that there were delays, intermittent Internet connectivity issues, etc., which I considered normal since a HIPS system does isolate resources on-the-fly and stops processes deemed to be malicious. Nothing out of the ordinary was appearing in DefenseWall's logs, except that it was not allowing JQSNOTIFY to work despite my best efforts to mark the process as safe.

Well, this morning I got a BSOD (didn't catch the complete error since my system rebooted on its own - I'll fix that for next time) and when Win 7 came back up it was hosed beyond belief. I restored an image of the system from Windows Home Server backup prior to installation of DefenseWall and so far everything is normal.

I can't prove that DefenseWall did this, but then again there was no malware and my system has never had any sort of catastrophic failure.

If you want to run DefenseWall on Windows 7, I recommend that you run it on a sandbox machine for several weeks and throw normal user activities at it before you put it into production.

"HIPS WAS MORE DEADLY THAN A VIRUS on my laptop!"

    April 6, 2010  |   By qxx

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.45

    Pros

Small footprint, great idea on paper
It seems to be a nice antivrus software if you can ever get it installed without it destroying all your files and freezing up your computer.
It's like a box of chocolates...I never knew what to expect.

    Cons

This software displayed the potential to totally wreck my laptop. It conflicted with some popular antivirus software on my laptop.
I had to send my laptop to a repair shop...Had to reprogram windows all over from the git' go!

    Summary

    1) This program did not install to the latest update
    2) This program did not uninstall fully
    3) This program caused massive, thorough, and extensive damage to my files and applications "in my view" as best as I could tell.
    4) Because of item 3) I had to take my laptop to a computer repair shop. After working on it for three days with debugging software he said he would have to wipe out Windows totally and reinstall my Window XP home edition.
    5) This program conflicts with several popular antivirus software causing my computer to freeze up, BSD, and more.

"THIS IS MY FRONT LINE DEFENSE !!!!!"

    December 28, 2009  |   By tthompson1013

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.45

    Pros

Treats all online activity as untrusted, like Sandboxie. It has a better interface than that of Sandboxie and it is a better fit for me! It is so user friendly and light on resources. and yet adds maximum protection (99%)

    Cons

It is only 99% effective! just kidding, none!

    Summary

As long as I surf the web I need Defense Wall by my side. I can't wait for a virus to come a knocking. I want to use to STOP ATTACK BUTTON! Malware is totally helpless and unable to change your registry, because it is sandboxed. You can right click and make a download TRUSTED.If it turns out to be infected, then its a good idea to have an AV program to catch it! I highly recommend this program

    December 16, 2007  |   By D_Menace

This statement from SoftSphere summaries the product truthfully:

DefenseWall HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) is the simplest and easiest way to protect yourself from malicious software (spyware, adware, keyloggers, rootkits, etc.), that can not be stopped by your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, when you surf the Internet! Using the next generation proactive protection technologies, sandboxing and virtualization, DefenseWall HIPS helps you achieve a maximum level of protection against malicious software, while not demanding any special knowledge or ongoing online signature updates. No signatures, no popup windows, no false positives. It is just reliable and transparent protection, easy to use and strong.

    Cons

Ensure you update to the latest version. This fixes issues described in some negative reviews

"Strong protection with no impact on system resource"

    December 14, 2007  |   By wadebridge59

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.05

    Pros

Threat gates such as browsers and email clients automatically run as untrusted and are not allowed to modify your system, therefore, Defensewall is excellent for known and zero-days malware.

Very light (8M) and no impact on browsing speed.

The developer, Ilya, is renowned for his customer service.

    Cons

You have to get used to running your untrusted apps as trusted when you want to update your browser, for example, or the update won't take. If you can get used to this then this product is a must.

"NEEDS MUCH WORK, CONSTANT CRASHES, TOO WEAK FOR SECURITY"

    November 26, 2007  |   By ssnake

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.05

    Pros

IT'S A NICE TOY BUT IT HAS TO MANY PROBLEMS. IT'S A TOY YOU WISH YOU COULD KEEP AND WISH WOULD WORK CORRECTLY BUT AFTER AWHILE YOU SEE THAT IT JUST AINT WORTH THE TROUBLE.

    Cons

PROBLEM #1. IT WONT RETAIN SETTINGS IN THE "DEFENSE EXCLUDES".

    2. WHEN YOU PUT UNTRUSTED PROGRAMS ECT IN THE UNTRUSTED SECTION YOU SEE ASSOCIATED ITEMS IN THE "DEFENSE EXCLUDES AREA.

    3. THE PROGRAM KEEPS CRASHING. AFTER YOU PUT TOO MANY EXLUDES IN THIS AREA THE PROGRAM CRASHES AND YOU HAVE TO RESTART YOU COMPUTER BECAUSE IF YOU JUST START THE PROGRAM WITHOUT A REBOOT THEN YOU SEE NONE OF THE UNTRUSTED PROCESSES , PROGRAMS ECT RUNNING IN THE SYSTEM TRAY ICON. IF YOU HAVE THREE UNTRUSTED PROCESSES IN THE SYSTEM TRAY ICON AND THE PROGRAM CRASHES THEN YOU RESTART THE PROGRAM WITHOUT A REBOOT YOU STILL HAVE THOSE UNTRUSTED PROCESSES RUNNING BUT THE SYSTEM TRAY SHOWS NONE. IF YOU RESTART THE COMPUTER THE IT AGAIN WILL SHOW UNTRUSTED PROCESSES IN THE SYSTEM TRAY BUT THE ITEMS YOU HAVE ADDED TO UNTRUSTED PROCESSES AND DEFENSE EXCLUDES ARE NOT THERE ANYMORE SO YOU HAVE TO RE ADD THEM AGAIN AND AGAIN. i BELIEVE THIS PROGRAM CAN ONLY HANDLE SO MUCH AND THEN IT LET'S YOU DOWN BY CRASHING AND FORCING A REBOOT. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS.

    3. THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A SET AND FORGET PROGRAM. WHEN I SET THE LOG TO FILTER CERTAIN EVENTS IT ONCE AGAIN WILL NOT FILTER THEM.

    4. I USE OPERA BROWSER AND AT ONE POINT KEPT LOOSING EMAILS THAT I HAVE NOT DELETED.

    5. YOU HAVE TO CONSTANLY WATCH THE PROGRAM TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS AS YOU SET IT. I DONT TRUST IT FOR THID REASON. I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE SINGLE SANDBOXING APPLICATION THAT ACTUALLY WORK AND I HAVE TRIED THEM. ALL OF THEM LIKE THIS ONE CONSTANTLY CREATE MYSTERIES BY WAY OF LOST INFORMATION AND CRASHES AND WHAT NOT. I TRIED GESWALL AND THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED IS IF YOU USE OPERA EMAIL IS YOU LOOSE YOUR MAIL. DEFENSEWALL NEED TO MADE MORE HEAVYWIEGHT AND ABLE TO RETAIN IT'S SETTINGS AND STOP CRASHING AND FORCING A REBOOT. I LIKE THE CONCEPT BUT THE EASE OF USE IS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. GOOD LUCK TO THE AUTHOR ON FUTURE BUILD WHICH I WILL TRY.

"easy to use no pop up windows"

    November 22, 2007  |   By gregb204

    Version: DefenseWall HIPS 2.05

    Pros

support is great to help if you have problem running on trial version. I did have trouble running at first but with some help was able to use. Automatically runs all programs as untrusted which means it is safe to surf. Like sandbox but no pop up windows to decide to trust. If want to download trusted program you run in trusted with a click. Little resources used as of 2 days of use on my xp comp.

    Cons

I would like desktop icon added automatically when install. Now go to programs to click to run. But small issue if leave on all the time.
