  Very helpful in navigation and saves time. User interface is good and easy to learn.

  Cons

  Most disappointing is to find that upgrades occur fairly often and they require a significant payment. I have owned DFX for just over two years and been hit with two upgrades more than doubling the original cost. Second most disappointing is that the upgrades come as updates when they are really free trials and when they expire you get charged or dumped. Not a very up front way to do business. I really dislike their marketing model!

  Summary

  It is a good product and it is useful. Just be aware that they are not up front about what it will cost you.

  Pros

  Makes navigation to relevant directories easy. Tracks where you've recently been, accessible from Finder open and save dialogs. I probably don't use it to its full potential.

  Seriously? None.

  This is one of the utilities that I miss the most when I don't have it.

  Easy to use. Saves alot of time. Does almost exactly what you're thinking you want done every time. Apple should have built this into the operating system.

  So many features, I don't have the time to learn them all at once.

  This great utility works in the background. It allows you to specify target folders in the open & save dialogue boxes, OR lets you choose on the fly. You can surf through your choices easily or automatically. It is a super time saver!

This, however, is just genius, which is why I've been using it since the OS9 days and will continue to. The amount of time drilling down menus on open and save dialogues that this app saves you is brilliant. You simply go back to where you left off on Save or Open and it remembers folders you were looking at. Quality. Dialogue don't feel right with this turned off anymore. Keep developing guys, I guess they'll need one for the iPad next.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />So Default Folder works great. I'm a registered user and recommend it. That being said, the downside is that they frequently want you to update their product, and this is the type of thing you want to stay on top of. Updates are complicated and cumbersome. You click "yes I want to download," then go to their web page and have to hunt for the small download link on their odd web page, then download the installer, then run the installer, click OK, then you have to log out and in to have it take effect. This happens frequently enough. They could make it easier and I have asked and they acknowledge this is something they could improve but they cannot be bothered to do it yet. Because of this thing, I give it 3 stars, as it is a frequent and significant annoyance they could fix but don't.
