"Debt Free Now with Debtinator's help."
Version: Debtinator 3.0.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been working to get debt free for the last 6 years or so ever sense I lost my job and it took 6 months to find another one. In 6 months time, my debt went to around $21,000. Every year I made some progress to paying off my debt but after I started using this app for the past 2 years or so, I can now say that I am debt free and have a little over $3400 in the bank. I would have gotten there by myself but not as fast. I still use Debtinator to plan out what to save in the bank and what I may spend to help maximize my money. Debtinator has helped me to become debt free and put extra money back in the bank. If you really wont an idea of what to do with your money, you should give Debtinator a chance. -

Although I have not delved into this as deeply as I will, I purchased off the bat in support. There are areas in Macintosh application software development that are monumentally unclaimed. You jumped all over this one with both feet and swung around with complete ownership! It feels like you know a thing or two!
I hope you are well supported in this endeavor. I have noticed the updates; it appears you are putting a mother lode of effort into this project. You're on to something. Don't let go!

"A Great way to make a plan to get out of dabt!"

Economic times are tough and getting out of debt can mean getting a major weight off your shoulders.
If you are serious about getting out of debt for good, then this is the app for you! And the $15 is a very modest price to ask considering the potential tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars it could save you!If you're curious about what this app will do for you, the demo version should be enough for you to see just how powerful something like this is!
One of the things I like about this program is that it lets the user set all of the parameters of income and expense. If I want to spend $100 a month going to the movies (an example given in the manual) it lets me. I won't get lectured ;-) but It will reflect on how long it takes me to get out of debt!
After the user enters debt, income and expenses, Debtinator provides a plethora of different reports that allow the user to explore various payment methods, from paying down the highest interest debt first to paying just the minimum payments. Currently, the user can't make charts directly from the Reports Pane, but reports can be exported in Plain text delimited files so you can import them into Excel or OpenOffice. I would like to see charting added to the Reports Pane in a future release.
You can also export the report in iCal format and import it into an iCal to schedule payments!
Debtinator provides charts for various total "out-of-debt" payment plans. The user can also create a graph of how much money goes to paying the interest and principle but the program doesn't like the idea that the usre may still be in debt after 50 years(!) especially making just the minimum payments.
If the graphs that are provided aren't enough for you and you are handy in any charting program that takes delimited text, you can make your own charts. Especially if you want account specific charts since the current charts reflect all debt and income.
Debtinator helps to show you how much cash you have on hand. In my case, I realized that was quite a bit more than I felt like I had with all this debt hanging over me. The primary purpose of Debtinator is to come up with a plan to get out of debt! You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make that plan and get out of debt if you stick to it!
If you are feeling weighed down in debt and want to find your way out, use Debtinator first before you call those "Debt relief" guys on TV.

"Review of Debtinator ver 2.6.2"
Version: Debtinator 2.6.2
Summary

Very impressed with this application, thanks for keeping the software inexpensive. The software is very comprehensive, has abilities which are typically charged many many dollars for by similar applications available in the marketplace. Thanks Jim.
In my opinion, the graphing capabilities component of the application could use some rendering to display a tighter single page format. Also the user interface, set-up and accounts configure areas could improve with the ability to display and appropriate liabilities, including either good or bad debt allocated accounts.
All the Best

"I finally found a replacement for \"Debt Minder!\""
Version: Debtinator 2.2.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was a big fan of a program called Debt Minder. It's developer went away a few years ago, and I kept using the program (it worked great) until I stumbled across a bug that prevented it from working for me -- and there was nothing I could do. I then went out to find all the debt reduction programs I could find for the Mac, and gave them all a good workthru.
Initially, Debtinator was just "sorta close" and I had it in the "well, it's the best I can find, but it's sure no Debt Minder" category. But, with so many updates and enhancements, and me understanding how it works, it's now a suitable replacement. It's a great program -- and ANYONE with any kind of credit card debt should take a look at it. Seriously.
It still calculates things a bit odd -- for instance, I have a 0% balance on a credit card that won't be due until the end of 2008. I have a second card balance that is 0% thru December this year. Debtinator doesn't seem to see that far ahead, and has me pay off the 2008 one soon, which ends up causing me to pay more interest (taking a few months longer to pay down the other one). Debt Minder saw all that, but other than some of the predictive advice being "very close but not perfect," it's a fantastic app.
Try it. And work with it to get to feel how it works. It has alot of features (especially lately!) that Debt Minder never got to offer. I still miss Debt Minder, but it its absence, this is my program of choice! -

This kicks dust in the face of my old spread sheet I was using to keep track of my debt. If you want something that is simple and does the basic grunt work of paraphrasing your overall debt then this is just the ticket.
Ignoring my debt really wasn't working so much for me. I'm glad I spent the $15, and in essence you can't put a price on peace of mind.
