    "It's a pleasure to use...."

    May 21, 2008  |   By peager

    Version: DataSlave Professional 2.1

    Pros

Forget MS SQL SISS! If you don't need the full complexity of what that product offers, you will get to you goal of massaging, validating, and moving data a whole lot quicker with Dataslave than any other product I know of. The ability to see intermediate results and to step through the individual transforms on a record by record basis is invaluable when developing complex validations or data transformations. Performance is excellent. Tech support couldn't be better.... We need to clone Ian and spread him around to some other companies that supposedly offer support.

    Cons

Documentation and examples could use some work. A faster Dataslave development cycle so I don't have to wait so long on the new good stuff they are adding to the product. (I must admit that it's worth every bit of the wait.)

"This is one slick piece of work."

    March 25, 2007  |   By 4peager

    Version: DataSlave Professional 2

    Pros

The graphical interface is wonderfully intuitive. Beging able to view the intermediate results as the data flows through the conversion map is invaluable during development. The tech support is top notch even if it is 8+ time zones away. Ian on their support team is great.

    Cons

The documentation sucks. There needs to be many more examples of how to handle specific situations like merging, updating existing records, etc. For a top notch product, it has some of the poorest documentation I have ever seen.

"A very well designed and capable data manipulation tool"

    November 26, 2005  |   By flxkid

    Version: DataSlave Professional 1.1

    Pros

The visual interface used in the application is most refreshing. In general it works as you would expect it to. The speed of the application even on large datasets is simply amazing. Its many built in functions and extensibility via script items is VERY helpful. Its visual interface allows you to connect things in such a manner that would be nearly impossible in most other data manipulation tools.

I have used other tools with a similar purpose (such as CrossMerge) and I can say that based on price and capabilities, DataSlave Pro is the best data manipulation tool I have used. I am now using it on a daily basis.

    Cons

There are a few user interface glitches that sometimes can cause a bit of trouble, but they are all minor enough that I can't even recall specifics. The only major item I see that DataSlave is missing is clipboard copy/cut/paste functionality in the UI. When this gets add into the product it will save me even more time each day than it does already.
