This encryption/decryption utility works well for any file type, but some features are lacking. Data Scrambler's bland interface is easy enough to navigate and understand, and accepts any type of file found on your PC. The program uses the secure Message-Digest algorithm 5 (MD5), which hashes files into bitmaps, and requires an encryption password to decrypt the file. Caveat: the program doesn't save passwords, so if the encryption password is lost, it cannot be decrypted. Unlike similar tools, you can't encrypt folders or multiple files at once, password-protect access to the application, or compress encrypted files. Since the program utilizes user-specified encryption passwords, any recipient will need to install the program and possess the appropriate password. Data Scrambler's feature set isn't remarkable, but this freeware program works just fine for users with occasional simple encryption needs.

Developer's Description

This tool will encrypt any data file into what appears to be a scrambled bitmap file. MD5 encryption prevents tampering with the image but still uses a reversible algorithm.
