"Much better than Retrospect"
Version: Data Backup X 2.02
Summary

This product works so much better than Retrospect. I backup to an external FW800 drive and have had good success with Data Backup 2. I never really liked the Tri-Edre interface to be honest, so I like the new interface comparatively- I'd like to see better network support but am happy with what it does now -
"Don't Buy Version 2! (And don't delete your old..."
Version: Data Backup X 2.01
Summary
...Version 1!)
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
After using version 1.x for more than a year, I came to love it. The new Version 2 is a clunky, inferior product -- a big step backward. It's missing valuable features from Version 1.x, such as the ability to have versioned backups cleaned out automatically so that your backup disk never gets full. (Version 2 just stalls out when your backup disk is full.)The awkward two-part program includes an "Executor" module that may not start properly, and which requires you to re-boot if you want to use DataBackup again after force-quitting it. It also seems to make scheduled backups only at its own convenience -- I came here to vent when I realized that DataBackup had simply ignored my regular 6 p.m. backup time, scheduled for a few minutes ago.
Also, whereas Version 1 would politely create a new folder in the destination volume, Version 2 ERASES the entire destination volume. This is in the documentation, and I was careful, but for some reason Version 2 decided to execute one of the full-disk backups which (I thought) I had never scheduled, and promptly erased my entire destination volume with no warning. Good thing there was nothing important on there.
No improvements in Version 2 that I can see, either!

"Moving Backwards"
Version: Data Backup X 2.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
After trying several products, licensed DB version 1 as the best of the lot, and was looking forward to version 2. 2 is a big step backward - features removed, doesn't respond intuitively and interface is more confusing (although simplified?!). Would have recommended 1, can't recommend 2. [And manual simply ended midway]
