"Not very user-friendly, infact, not at all"

Could be fine program, but you can not "just like that" import your own mp3s. I tryed several hours to figure out how to play my mp3s. Finaly, I saw some file *.dbf (* replaces the original name of the file, cause I can not remember it right now) and thought that it could be an EXCEL database file, and IT is an EXCEL database file. How to open it:

1. start your excel;

2. on menu bar click on Data;

3. on Data menu click on Import External Data;

4. click on Import Data;

5. Open dropdown menu "Files of type";

6. Select "All files";

7. find location of *.dbf in DRS 2006 folder, named something like drsdatabase or datalist or something like that. In it should be a file with an extension .dbf;

8. when you have opened it, you will see a classic excel list, a list of those damn demo files (that could only be played);

9. insert new cell into list;

10. in coloumn NAME, wright name of a mp3 file that you'd like to play trough this proghram;

11. when you filled all coloumns (type, durations...), copy that file and paste it into same folder with those damn demo mp3s;

12. finaly, when you select tab in program "import file/ list, your song will apeare in list among those "jingles"

It is too complicated, there are far better programs...

"Old interface makes DRS 2006 an obsolete Automater."

August 16, 2003  |  By iccles_dog

 |  Version: DRS 2006 - The Radio Automation Software 2.11

Although DRS 2006 looks good, it lacks severely in user friendly interface advances as well as imposing extremely restrictive operating conditions. The system itself is based around simulating the old cart machines of 1980s radio. These systems have been replaced by more modern click and play alternatives, yet DRS 2006 fails to embrace modern technology advances and sticks to giving us a vintage package as opposed to a cutting edge program as promised. The setting up of the program is actually impossible:
To import your own MP3s, a playlist must first be created. To do so, a database must be used to tell the program which files to be imported into the playlist. So, in order to create your own playlist, your own database must be created, but since there is no method of creating a DRS2006 friendly database within the program whatsoever, you are simply stuck with the DRS 2006 demo package offerings. A triple cartridge system enables segues to take place, however since each MP3 ties up a whole cartridge slot, there is no room for recovery if you make a mistake. The publishers cannot claim sound quality to be a positive selling aspect as the program uses Microsoft Windows Media player plugins to decode and play the MP3s - so not actually coding written by the programmers. Therefore it will save memory simply by playing from several WinMedia windows. Items can only be played simultaneously if older items are to be faded out, so incoporating a sweeper into music-bedded link whilst having a song ready to cue is impossible. Finally, the DJ studio module has no stop function. All in all this software looks good, operates well, but complete short-sightedness on the part of the program developers has led to a program with low user-friendliness resulting in slow operation (unacceptable when it comes to live radio presenting) and a package which seems to be stuck in the 80s. This is definitely NOT the future of radio broadcasting.
