"DosBox works as games player"
Version: DOSBox 1.01
Pros
I can run Paradox in DosBox which will not run under XP mode. My OS is Win 7. I can edit and run most functions.
Cons
No printing from DosBox. I have a parallel printer but is on LPT3 not LPT1. There is file I can edit to fix the problem.
Summary
Now I can run some old programs from the old dos in my 64 bit Windows 7.

"The last resort of the nostalgia-stricken gamer"
Version: DOSBox 1.01
Pros
Runs everything that fails to run under newer Windows natively; can be tweaked to bits; allows use of graphic filters and other enhancements
Cons
Does require a fair amount of fiddling before it runs bearably (without overheating your PC or stuttering every minute or so); not quite intuitive either
Summary
Oftentimes, the only alternative to keeping a decade-old PC with MSDOS installed on it for scratching the occasional DOS gaming itch. A potent alternative, at that.

"Get those old games working on newer verions of Windows"
Version: DOSBox 1.01
Pros
Great piece of software to get old Windows 95 games running under Vista and Win 7 correctly. I've used this successfully with Warcraft II and Command & Conquer.
Cons
Some settings are tricky to set correctly. A bit of trial and error required to get them perfect. Be patient.
Summary
Go for it if you have legacy software to install or get old games playing properly.
