"Terrible; passive aggressive tactics to force upgrade"

    February 17, 2012  |   By StrandSC

Version: DFX Audio Enhancer for Winamp 10.130

    Pros

Only sounds a LITTLE better than your regular Windows sound settings

    Cons

Most functions of app are locked down, prompted to upgrade, prompted to continue trial every 60 seconds (seems like), can't switch to headphone option, can't minimize, can't make full use of the slider bars (in trial version)

    Summary

Aside from looking like a really really bad WinAmp skin from 1997, this trial version is locked down tighter than a Puritan woman in the 1600's. As you are listening to songs it prompts you about every few minutes to upgrade and/or continue the trial, it flattens out the equalizer settings to make it sound horrible, as if to show you, albeit falsely, the difference in how the computer sounds without the software running. These tactics smack of the free/trial/shareware software crap you had to deal with way back in the 90's. I had to download an uninstaller from their website to fully uninstall the software and then it required a reboot.
Unless you want to drop $40 to buy software that makes your computer sound just a little better, stay away from this stinker. I'm sure there are better alternatives out there.
