CNET Editors' review
DBGallery is a photo management program that lets users organize their photos using more sophisticated techniques than the standard folders. Alas, DBGallery falls into the category of potentially useful software that is undermined by its poorly designed interface. Although we are familiar with many of its photo organizing features, the program's layout makes it frustrating to use.
We understand what the program aims to do. Images can be sorted and stored in collections using a variety of different parameters that are included in image EXIF information, including date, camera, ISO, aperture, and more. The program has a tool for adding location information for images that don't already include it and a utility that helps users manage submissions to microstock sites. There are also tools for creating HTML galleries and emailing images. All of these are potentially useful features, especially for more advanced photographers who like to geek out over the organization of their images. Unfortunately, though, DBGallery just isn't user-friendly. Yes, it contains links to tutorial videos, which are appreciated, but the bottom line is that this program doesn't need to be that complicated. The online Help file is also lengthy, and though documentation is a good thing, DBGallery really isn't sophisticated enough to require this much of it. We'd much rather see a program that has a more intuitive design and requires less explanation.
DB Gallery has a 30-day trial period. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program with reservations; it works, but figuring it out is more trouble than it's worth.

Version: DBGallery: Photo DATAbase System 4.2.1
Easy to find your photos. Great features to share your photos with friends and family. Convenient options to sort your photos when searching through your database.
Entering data for every photo may take time, but with the auto fill options and easy to use data presets, DBGallery cuts entry time dramatically. Having data added to photos really does pay off in the future.
Personally, I like having my photos organized. When I want to find a photo of me and my best friends, DBGallery allows me to quickly find the photo. When I wanted to find a photo of my trip to Newfoundland a couple months ago, all I had to do was search a few keywords for a photo I was looking for and DBGallery showed me the details of my photo and even showed it on a map where it was taken. It has a lot of unique and interesting features that I have not seen in a program in my search before finding DBGallery. I highly recommend this program for anyone with a computer and digital camera because I'm sure everyone has been just as frustrated about flipping through folders on their hard drive to find just one photo.
Version: DBGallery: Photo DATAbase System 4.0
Photo organization using data.
IPTC/XMP Multi-Edit and Templates.
Likely too complex for most digital photo beginners.
I've looking for years for something to allow data entry for photos. Especially something which would use this data to organize and find images in my 10,000+ collection. I've found it! Logical views are excellent in that it facilitates browsing photos by camera type, keywords, year/month, plus a bunch more. Once geotagged the photos will display across a map! Very cool. And it includes an easy to use GeoTagging window (using GoogleMaps).
Keying data is a bit of a pain. I'm finding it doesn't take all that much time though and easily pays off by being able to search for photos using any of that data. Makes finding photos very easy.
DBGallery is awesome.
"Amazing, Ease of use A+!!"
Version: DBGallery: Photo DATAbase System 2.6
Ease of use is unbelievable, It is such a user friendly program. So many useful features, I fell in love with this program. The Webgallery feature is just awesome. The Email, reports, handy collections..The keywords are a life saver when you are looking for a specific set of pictures. Instead of having to Hunt around in My Pictures for them, Just type the keyword that you had keyed into the collection and search for it.!! All of it is so useful!! It helped me organize photos that were just a mess stashed in my pictures.
There isn't much that I don't like about the program. It is fairly plain, no fancy bells and whistles, Everything that is included in DBG is there for a purpose. So it could use a bit of color. The only thing that grated me a little was the slow loading when you are going back to the root folder. But it is understandable, More so when you are working with large amounts of photos, and sub folders.
"About time someone made photo data easy."
Version: DBGallery: Photo DATAbase System 2
It is simplicity itself. Keying and searching for data is extremely easy. I love the quickview popup that has data and photo as the mouse hovers over a thumbnails. The email and website creation is pretty nice too.
The installation is a bit tricky. But the instructions are clear and if followed it's not a problem...and worth it!
