Version: DAZ Studio 2
"Powerful and Easy all at once."
Pros: Disclaimer: I an a former DAZ employee who worked on DAZ|Studio as a programmer in 2005 (I also wrote the first user manuals for it, so if you've any bones to pick there, you can scream at me :) ).
The interface is customizable, the controls are among the easiest to use in the 3D/CG software world, and the results can be stunning with a minimum of fuss and work. It has a powerful scripting interface that can be expanded upon and put to use with one of the shortest learning curves in the 3D/CG realm (available as a free SDK download at their site).
As a free program, it does its job far better than any paid program in its class - 3D/CG composition and rendering is top-notch. Add-on programs allow for increased flexibility, and the results are exportable as either Alias/Wavefront .obj format, or it can be directly imported into Bryce or Carrara.
It has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2002, IMHO, and has even improved very well since I last was able to tinker with its internals. :)
Cons: One caveat: some older laptops and desktops with embedded video (say, c. 2003 and earlier) will not be able to process and/or use this application as well as it would have run previous versions, so be sure to check the minimum requirements, and update your video drivers if you can. (As an example, I was unable to run it on a Sony Vaio Z1RA w/ a 16MB ATI video card (c. 2003), while D|S version 1.8 still runs nicely on the same gear).
