"Solid product, but hell to install successfully."

    June 15, 2013  |   By theheadlessman

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.5.0.114

    Pros

Plenty of helpful information out there if you don't mind hunting and sifting through a host of useless tutorials to find one(s) that actually address whatever issues you might be having with the learning curve.

Bridge tech software works like a charm.

Easily accessible files without need for additional codecs when communicating with photoshop and zbrush

Plenty of additional software (some award-winning, I might add) packages available on DAZ website if you don't mind downloading them through the confusing install-manager.

    Cons

Don't bother going to the DAZ website for community help. Their forums are filled with unanswered questions and repeat members seeking the same advice more than once.

If you do choose this product, don't be surprised if you're required to uninstall/re-install from DAZ website for registration codes. iwant.com is no longer providing them without membership and their incessant emails can be a serious inbox pain.

The installation process is a lot like flying blindfolded looking for a needle in a haystack. The install manager seems to attempt simplicity but also seems to be referring to additional products not advertised/explained and once installed, will request pathways in 'settings' tab of inaccessible software menus. I'll be honest. It took me three attempts to download and install this product before it worked properly on my high-end custom pc. In my mind, that's far, far more than annoying and just tipping the scale toward 'not worth it'

    Summary

All it's complex processes aside, the actual software (once you get past the inane and insanely irritating installation process) is powerful, easy to learn, easy to port, and satisfyingly supported with ample resources to continue through the entire design process from modeling to animation and viewing of your scene/image/pose. All in all, I am happy with my decision to hold on to this product, but I most certainly WILL NOT be adding it again should it somehow spontaneously remove itself from my desktop/hard-drive... again.

Getting to it can be a real *&$%, but once you have the program working successfully on your pc, it's satisfying enough to hold on to.

    "Quirky But Good"

    July 31, 2012  |   By Grafik-Werk

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.47

    Pros

The time for animating seems on par with Autodesk et al, being slower than some lower-cost game or animation programs. But DAZ Studio 4 can import/export common formats, and is great for rigging characters for export into other high-end and low-cost apps where animation is really made.

    Cons

Currently DAZ wouldn't install to other than Windows 7 "C:" disk re any files; DAZ site on installation page says that's how it's intended; I find that since installing DAZ Studio 4 my Control Panel "Programs" claims 590GB now used for all programs (a number, oh, about 497GB greater than actual)yet all other systemic checks still report real number/no malware or virus, and DAZ/system/apps working fine (problem goes away simply by uninstalling DAZ, for me).

    Summary

Great for those simply needing to riggify or whip up a character, but the quirky program may somehow not be compatible with all Windows 7 editions.

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.19

    Pros

Don't know yet, I can't finish installing it without a serial number. Is it hidden away in the files somewhere?

    Cons

    No serial number yet

"Great free program, but don't buy the full version"

    April 26, 2012  |   By Oldneller

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.19

    Pros

As this program is free - and now a full, free version is available at their site - it's hard to complain. Complete with free models and other extras, this 3-d suite definitely creates decent renders, and is great for someone just starting to get into the realm of 3-d art. Definitely competes with similar 3-d rendering programs.

    Cons

This program is horribly memory intensive - in order to run, you'll need at least a 1 gig graphics card, and well over 4 gigs of ram (I have these specs, and it's still troublesome on my computer). In addition, the program is full of bugs - so I get about two renders at a time before it generates an error and crashes - every time. Have tried on several different computers and the same result. Don't buy the full version - it's far too flawed of a program, and doesn't hold a candle to Poser.

    Summary

Good free program, but can't overcome it's serious flaws and bugs, which often make continuous work impossible without restarting the program with every function.

    "Program won't load."

    January 3, 2012  |   By s67bigdave

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.19

    Pros

    None that can see.

    Cons

The program never runs, it however does show up in the Task Manager. The only way to end the program is to abort it using the Task Manager.

    "Good for rendering"

    November 8, 2011  |   By Leafy_Greens

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.9

    Pros

Easy to use, very good results.

    Cons

You have to import the actual models from another program, meaning that you can't work from scratch.

    Summary

A good program to use if you have all of your materials set. However, it is nearly useless on its own.

    "WoW.........! (to make 10 characters)"

    November 4, 2011  |   By jplong42

    Version: DAZ Studio 4.0.3.9

    Pros

For a new guy like myself, it's a revelation, a whole new graphics world.

    Cons

Complexity (or perhaps just learning curve).

    Summary

I think it's really neat. I'm excited to learn about 3d modeling without the high cost of other 3d modeling packages. I'm not sure about where this is going but if it's like other "Hey wow look at that" projects it's gonna end up costing me a bundle.
