"Thought this was great when I got it. Changed my mind."
Pros
I was doing very simple things in the beginning (about a year ago)...nothing too fancy other than using the built in text animator and some color adjustment. No real problem other than the somewhat frequent crashing of the program. But I saved my work frequently, having read about the crashing from other users.
Cons
Now that I'm getting "fancy", with some slight higher resolution videos and needing to change the orientation of some other videos with the built in rotate feature, the frequency of crashes is through the roof. It took 2 days to produce a project that shouldn't have taken any more than 6 to 8 hours TOPS, including capturing the video, because PowerDirector crashed and stalled so many times while capturing, editing, and rendering video. It was like the program was deteriorating before my eyes. The automatic batch capture wouldn't work anymore. The manual batch capture wouldn't work. So many things wouldn't work. And the problem is not my computer because when I tried some of these tasks in other programs, there was no problem. I kept having to find work-arounds for the most basic things in PowerDirector to get the video produced. The other I don't like is that this program has a number of "hidden menus" that make simple tasks difficult to figure out how to do.
Summary
I am deeply disappointed with this program now and have already decided to search for something better. I don't feel this thing really delivers what it promises. I think their target audience might be people who really just don't know any better when it comes to working with video; because one you get a little more demanding in terms of what you want to do with your videos, I think this program is likely to fail you as it did me. So maybe it'll work ok for you if don't do anything "fancy". If you're intended to do anything half-way approaching high quality, polished videos, I think you're going to need a more polished software package.
