    "Not for commercial use."

    October 24, 2014  |   By SoNic 67

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 13.0

    Pros

    1. Plenty of features and effects for a home user.
    2. Some level of GPU acceleration for effects and encoding (with some caveats).
    3. Price.

    Cons

    1. GPU acceleration for nVidia is incompatible with newest drivers.
    2. Licensing agreement states is not for commercial usage because licenses for the output video formats (MPEG2, MPEG4) are not included:

    "Don't buy this product."

    October 9, 2014  |   By tymothil

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 13.0

    Pros

It's affordable. When you can get it working properly, it's occasionally useful.

    Cons

Very glitchy UI. Counter-intuitive UI. Crashes often. Slow processing. Product crippling bugs in version 13. Support is not helpful, and expensive if you want to actually talk to someone.

    Summary

was using PowerDirector 12, and upgraded to PowerDirector 13. It was a mistake. The program, in general, has always had a lack of polish, including redraw problems (where all the UI interface elements disappear after completing an action), counter-intuitive interface design, random crashes, and weird bugs (occasionally all transitions in a project will suddenly switch which element is A and which is B, and many others). Those are all still present; in fact, the UI has managed to take a step backwards, never remembering window positions and sizes, and the redraw is even worse than before. Now, however, there is a bug where any AVI file imported will rotate the image 90 degrees, while leaving the image frame not rotated, so everything looks like it was taken on a vertical camera phone, but is also rotated the wrong direction. Contacting support resulted in a series of form-letter responses with occasional bits of unhelpful advice. And to actually talk to a live human is 30 dollars for 2 months of phone support. No official response on their forum after multiple people posted about the bug over a few weeks. I strongly advise against purchasing this program.

"ALERT!! AVOID!! Installed a Browser Hijacker!!"

    October 7, 2014  |   By donderutoo

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 13.0

    Pros

Not much. I tried to create a picture show with music. Easily dragged over 8 pictures and added music, but couldn't figure out how to add more pics. Frustrated at the performance (slow!) and UI. Ended up starting a new project, but it choked on my 400+ pictures and took over 20 minutes to import them. Ended up not using what I tried to create as it took too long and I had to go.

    Cons

It installed a browser hijacker that routes searches and your home page to a "trovi" (or something like that) site. PC slowed down tremendously, too. If you get this, anti-virus sw won't see it and Malwarebytes said they cleaned it, but didn't. Use the ad-blocker software, i.e. Superantispyware, adware, etc. and they will take care of it. You can also search on how to clean the trovi browser hijacker.

    Summary

Slow sw package that installed a browser hijacker/virus. Wouldn't recommend

    "hidden tech support"

    September 12, 2014  |   By ms techie

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

easy to use buttons and navigation to access each component of the program. Desktop icons setup and install quickly.
First project smooth. Easy to import video and picture files

    Cons

tried to import MTS files, sends me to their website, response back quickly but have to sign up for their newsletters to see a response about a general question. They only post phone if you sign up and pay for tech support

    Summary

Would not purchase, will look at other options for desktop editing.

    "looks ok at first"

    June 25, 2014  |   By kmkrreeves

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

looks modern... can produce projects if you are careful and save it every few seconds.

    Cons

    Crashes extremely often.
EVERY time you go to burn a disc it will crash the first time, and you will lose all the customization on the disc menu (every title. everything. even if it took you hours) there is no way to say the disc menu, so the first time expect to have to re-do it.

the more you use it the more it crashes, glad I didn't purchase after first project.

    Summary

the first project I did in the 30 day trial worked great, I almost bought it, but I decided to do a few more in the trial, and every one gets worse. The first one was pretty smooth, worked great. second one, it crashed on me, it doesn't have any sort of auto save, so if you do try it make sure to save your work every time you do anything. then I tried to burn it, and after titling every chapter and moving the stuff around on the weird template that comes with it for dvd menus (only one is included, you have to download others) it crashed when I clicked burn disc. then I found out that it does not save the dvd menu in the project file, so everytime it crashes you have to start over.

first project was decievingly smooth, make a few things before you decide to purchase

    "Easy to use"

    June 10, 2014  |   By Intranet_Manager

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

I use this to do all my video editing.
Good support for different video formats and codecs
Fast, especially on a high ram pc.

    Cons

Sometimes, the number of editing options can create a bit of confusion

    Summary

On the surface of it all, it is easy to use. My 9 year old was able to use it intuitively for a simple video project, with only limited help from me, when it came time to output the project, and applying the best settings for an mpeg4 video file.

    "Love it! Highly recommend it!"

    May 27, 2014  |   By Harrisince

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

So, I tried the free trial before, and it was excellent! Even though it has a watermark in the middle, it's faded so people can see the whole video, and it's super easy to use and adjust to it! It's a great video editor, and a video creator too! Also a great way to make a quick video. But it also has some downfalls, too! One downfall is that the trimming needs to be exact, not in groups, so it makes it easier to trim down, because sometimes I want to trim up just a little part, and I can't really. Also have a concern about the transitions. I don't add them, because when I want to shorten it, glitches happen and it ruins the whole video. Other than that, it's flawless, and really neat too, it just bothers me when a product looks so classic, but it's really modern and neat, I like it!
FYI there is a portable mac version of CyberLink Power Director, which can be found here:
    http://www.macvideoeditor.com/

    Cons

it has a watermark in the middle

    Summary

We can add music to videos and we can even add audio voiceovers. Once we finish creating a great video, we can share it with others in a variety of ways including on Facebook.

    "Unstable Garbage software"

    May 23, 2014  |   By wallstreetexaminer

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

Lots of features, most of which will cause the program to crash without warning and lose your data.

    Cons

Crashes constantly. Loses data. Overwrites data. Can only handle very small snips of video one at a time. It's almost worse than Windows movie maker, which is another p.o.s. but at least that's free. I'm working on a quad core process with plenty of RAM. This isn't a hardware issue. It's junk software.

    Summary

If you waste your money on this unstable, unworkable POS be prepared to waste countless hours doing things over and over in tiny slices before producing an entire video. Their Youcam software is also unstable. Both are virtually useful. HP should be ashamed for installing this garbage.

    Updated on May 23, 2014

Typo. Should be "virtually useless" not "useful".
