    "hidden tech support"

    September 12, 2014  |   By ms techie

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

easy to use buttons and navigation to access each component of the program. Desktop icons setup and install quickly.
First project smooth. Easy to import video and picture files

    Cons

tried to import MTS files, sends me to their website, response back quickly but have to sign up for their newsletters to see a response about a general question. They only post phone if you sign up and pay for tech support

    Summary

Would not purchase, will look at other options for desktop editing.

    "looks ok at first"

    June 25, 2014  |   By kmkrreeves

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

looks modern... can produce projects if you are careful and save it every few seconds.

    Cons

    Crashes extremely often.
EVERY time you go to burn a disc it will crash the first time, and you will lose all the customization on the disc menu (every title. everything. even if it took you hours) there is no way to say the disc menu, so the first time expect to have to re-do it.

the more you use it the more it crashes, glad I didn't purchase after first project.

    Summary

the first project I did in the 30 day trial worked great, I almost bought it, but I decided to do a few more in the trial, and every one gets worse. The first one was pretty smooth, worked great. second one, it crashed on me, it doesn't have any sort of auto save, so if you do try it make sure to save your work every time you do anything. then I tried to burn it, and after titling every chapter and moving the stuff around on the weird template that comes with it for dvd menus (only one is included, you have to download others) it crashed when I clicked burn disc. then I found out that it does not save the dvd menu in the project file, so everytime it crashes you have to start over.

first project was decievingly smooth, make a few things before you decide to purchase

    "Easy to use"

    June 10, 2014  |   By Intranet_Manager

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

I use this to do all my video editing.
Good support for different video formats and codecs
Fast, especially on a high ram pc.

    Cons

Sometimes, the number of editing options can create a bit of confusion

    Summary

On the surface of it all, it is easy to use. My 9 year old was able to use it intuitively for a simple video project, with only limited help from me, when it came time to output the project, and applying the best settings for an mpeg4 video file.

    "Love it! Highly recommend it!"

    May 27, 2014  |   By Harrisince

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

So, I tried the free trial before, and it was excellent! Even though it has a watermark in the middle, it's faded so people can see the whole video, and it's super easy to use and adjust to it! It's a great video editor, and a video creator too! Also a great way to make a quick video. But it also has some downfalls, too! One downfall is that the trimming needs to be exact, not in groups, so it makes it easier to trim down, because sometimes I want to trim up just a little part, and I can't really. Also have a concern about the transitions. I don't add them, because when I want to shorten it, glitches happen and it ruins the whole video. Other than that, it's flawless, and really neat too, it just bothers me when a product looks so classic, but it's really modern and neat, I like it!
FYI there is a portable mac version of CyberLink Power Director, which can be found here:
    http://www.macvideoeditor.com/

    Cons

it has a watermark in the middle

    Summary

We can add music to videos and we can even add audio voiceovers. Once we finish creating a great video, we can share it with others in a variety of ways including on Facebook.

    "Unstable Garbage software"

    May 23, 2014  |   By wallstreetexaminer

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

Lots of features, most of which will cause the program to crash without warning and lose your data.

    Cons

Crashes constantly. Loses data. Overwrites data. Can only handle very small snips of video one at a time. It's almost worse than Windows movie maker, which is another p.o.s. but at least that's free. I'm working on a quad core process with plenty of RAM. This isn't a hardware issue. It's junk software.

    Summary

If you waste your money on this unstable, unworkable POS be prepared to waste countless hours doing things over and over in tiny slices before producing an entire video. Their Youcam software is also unstable. Both are virtually useful. HP should be ashamed for installing this garbage.

    Updated on May 23, 2014

Typo. Should be "virtually useless" not "useful".

"biggest pile of POS I have ever used"

    May 8, 2014  |   By SWGAmgee32

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 8.0

    Pros

Nothing it ans their support are a POS

    Cons

Resource hog, way over complicated and cumbersome. Spent 6 hours on the paid support line and finally was told that this software will not do the simple things that Pinnacle will and can do. Even a 8 year old version.

    Summary

It's POS! avoid it like the plague. It is not worth the HTML space the website is written on.

If there were a minus rating I would got and their support a -10

    "Has great potential"

    January 17, 2014  |   By dgloucks

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

    Fast, powerful, mostly intuitive

    Cons

Stopped being able to produce MP4, MPEG, MKV and H.264 files.

    Summary

Bought version 11 last summer. Worked great. Produced several videos. Blazing fast produce speed (running on i7-3770, 10 GB RAM, 2T HDD and another 1T HDD on Win 8.1). Sometime around last fall noticed it would no longer produce MP4, MPEG, MKV, H.264, but would still produce WMV, MOV and AVI. Made the connection that those were the file formats that used hardware acceleration, so assumed I had done something with an update to break it. Reviewed blogs looking for issue and they recommended uninstalling, cleaning with special version of CCleaner and reinstalling. Did that. No joy. Decided to contact Cyberlink tech support. Now granted, for the price I paid for the software, I thought having any tech support was pretty good. Had multiple conversations with "tech support" (word used loosely). Honestly, they didn't pass the Turing Test for me to know if I was talking to a human or just an automated response from a computer. They were that unhelpful. After 6 emails repeating myself (and them losing my files, or my having to send and resend links to their FTP site that wouldn't work) I figured it was time to spend my time elsewhere on another product. Shame, it had some promise.

    "Screwed by Cyberlink"

    January 1, 2014  |   By amos555

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 9.0

    Pros

    I liked the software.

    Cons

Ultimate and Suite imply the latest versions of software in the USA.
To sell obsolete versions of Power Director in a Ultimate Suite is deceitful.
I bought the same deal 2 years ago and should have returned it.
I install my old version of Power Director and I am asked if I want to install an update. An update means you have modified or corrected a problem.

What I received is a whole new Suite that expires in 30 days and the option to upgrade every program.

    Summary

    Change your sales practices.

If I say any more it would be profane. Too say this a personal attack, would not be true. I am reporting my opinion of software received. I am sure this post would attract many agreements.

    "Do NOT buy this product."

    December 21, 2013  |   By Grazerbub

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 12.0

    Pros

Its slick until you try to Produce something.

    Cons

I agree with, and had same experiences as other CON commenters. I lost two months worth of work, and spent hours attempting every fix that the non-communicative tech site suggested. Once I began to ask for a refund, they stopped responding.

    Summary

V.8. was good and worked. V.12 is useless. Please, save yourself frustration and headache and buy something else!

    "I hate this software"

    November 21, 2013  |   By axiomshift78

    Version: CyberLink PowerDirector 8.0

    Pros

easy to use if you want your disc to look like the generic templates. If you want to change the menu in anyway, good luck with that

    Cons

impossible to make anything look good. Plus the customer support cost way too much for what you should be able to find in FAQ

    Summary

I've never written a review before. But this POS software pushed me that far. First, a little background. I am a heavy graphics user. I work on computers for a living, animating for Dreamworks. So I do know my way around a graphix package or two. But this software is so frustratenly limiting. All I want is to use my on image for the background of the menu, and add an invisible button over the entire image to start the movie. And after 4 full nights, roughly 20 hours or more. I was unable to find any help on the internet or anyway to do it.

I will never ever purchase any software that this company puts out. And I hope they go out of business.

    good day
