well i have done a check on this via another web site and it does hide your ip well it shows as a differant ip which is nowhere near where u are so that is a plus

it tend to slow your system down but not by to much,you have to wait to get connected to other ip address but it is free so u can put up with that.

I have to start off saying that i use bitdefender total security 2012. Yesterday bitdefender firewall notified me of 2 port scan accesses and blocked them during my CyberGhost session. Upon checking the IP's, they were found to be private.
Ironically, Bitdefender is the security suite that Cyberghost advertises during that 15 second wait to get new IP address.
Startup is slow. 1 gb data transfer limit / month for free not great.
cheaper paid VPN's are available.
good thing is that this actually doesn't reduce internet speed much and it actually works very effectively whilst most other I've tried don't do what they're advertised to do. -

It does work if you want to put up with a BS mal-ware screen that you can't even get to anything on your computer. Oh, they want to sell you a CyberGhost T-shirt. Yeah right, I bet they sell a lot of those after the harassment.

Summary
This service is one of the best VPN services I've tried. It's easy to setup and the client software looks nice and offers a lot of additional features like an Anti-Spy Tool. Additionally it offers an encrypted Online-Safe, which I use for my business documents.
