Version: CyberDefender AntiSpyware 2008
"Installed on Vista to compare these mixed reviews!"
Pros: However, I remain mixed as to how good/bad it really is! In all likelihood, it's a good program for those new to computing but not so for an old warhorse like me! On Vista I recommend creating a system restore point just before installing this app!
Cons: It's true, it is a tough uninstall! Like I said, create a system restore point first. Thats a must! Vista will restore your registry exactly like it was prior to installing this but it's program file still leaves junk behind. Manual delete is a must.
Summary: In fairness to those who love this program, it sells for a good price. It doesn't lag your system & seems to have a good detection rate even though it found zero on my machine, but I hate what it did to my IE. I strongly recommend "MalwareBites" anti-maleware as a 2nd! To me, it's #1 at what it does. I liked it so much, I got the full version with a lifetime key for $24.00. System restore took care of this "hell of an uninstall" for me. All that said, I remain neutral towards this app. It;s neither an all that security app. nor a horrible one. So, like I said, recommended for newcomers to Windows & for those who's computers are light on resources only! I use ESET Smart Security, Spy Sweeper & MalwareBites, (full version) & have been clean of any real nasties for 9 months. Nothing has gotten bye those apps at all.
