    "Didn't run on Win 8 so I don't know"

    March 10, 2013  |   By unparallel

    Nice icon?

    Cons

Didn't run on Win 8. (What does, reliably? Especially legacy programs.)

"OK but at a high price"

    January 17, 2013  |   By leojim

    Version: CrystalDiskInfo 5.2.2

    Pros

Pretty much did what it said.

    Cons

All the added garbage that came along with it. I'm not sure if it was the program installation or the CNET installation program, but next thing know I have a new browser toolbar and search engine hijack! I checked my add/remove programs (sorted by date) and had 5 new programs installed!!! Needless to say they all got removed and my default search reset!

    Summary

One of the worst installation experiences I have ever experienced for forcing unwanted crap!

    "Excellent product..."

    September 18, 2012  |   By dkunkelm

    Version: CrystalDiskInfo 5.0.4

    Pros

Very informative - shows lots of stuff about your HDD

    Cons

Installer has Open Candy, an ad-ware product
Some features are NOT explained on the online help; should have help for ALL features user might not know about

    Summary

I don't use this much, but when I do, it works flawlessly with my OS & HDD. Never really tried this with a SDD or hybrid HDD, so not really certain how or if it works on those types of disks. I think they shouldn't have put that Open Candy (ad-ware) in the installer, but they do let you download a zip version, which doesn't have the ad-ware in it. It's freeware & I understand they might need money, but I really see no relevance to that myself. Otherwise, I give it a great rating. :)

    "Very useful utility"

    June 22, 2011  |   By subgeniusd

    Version: CrystalDiskInfo 4.0.2

    Pros

Installs and updates easily, displays useful hdd details that can catch early signs of hdd failure. If the technical details don't interest you you can just go by the color scheme.

    Cons

I know a lot about magnetic storage technology but really comprehending all that SMART data is a project.

    Summary

Opencandy is more like a harmless tracking cookie then real spyware. Just pay attention during installation and decline the Yahoo toolbar or whatever browser addon it's trying to install. The latest Microsoft Security Essentials and iObit Malware Fighter both pass this program.

"This software is very good but contains adware..."

    May 5, 2011  |   By dkunkelm

    Version: CrystalDiskInfo 3.10

    Pros

The software itself is quite good...

    Cons

Unfortunatealy, the installer versions contain the "OpenCandy" (adware) software that is a mandatory install with this software...

    Summary

This software is quite good. It's still free however, the installer versions have recently included a mandatory install of "OpenCandy", which is from what I've read about it an adware. They do have a zip version that the author claims to not have that adware included. I might have to use a different benchmarking tool if things get any worse with this 1 in a future release...
