Simple installation, user guidance, and operation make this freeware virtual encrypted disk tool a snap for anyone to use. Cryptdisk.4h's dialog-size interface doesn't complicate the process. Five buttons and a small list make up an interface even novice users will quickly master.

Some users like the simplicity of an encrypted folder on their hard drive. This tool makes it easy to install such a folder and mount it as a virtual drive. There are dozens of such programs, but Cryptdisk.4h makes sure to give new users a very detailed step-by-step guide to set up the drives. Experienced users will have this app set up and running in minutes.

It's easy to set and use a password to block others from accessing your encrypted drive. With a few check boxes and a pull-down menu, users can set the drive's letter and mount it as read-only or removable. Multiple drives can be easily managed from a simple list menu. After mounting a drive, files can be dropped in and removed using Windows Explorer or drag and drop.

Users needing basic file encryption in an easy-to-use virtual drive setting will find Cryptdisk.4h answers their need at no cost.

    Version: CryptDisk.4h 3.0.0.2

    Pros

    Looks simple to use...

    Cons

    some skills needed!

    Summary

Do not try to create virtual drive until you don't have administrator rights !!!
There is possibility to switch off the virtual disk after use - run the program again, select the mounted drive, and just click "Dismount". That's all ! Perfect small and fast thing!

"Has driver issues in Vista. Could not get it to mount."

    January 30, 2009   |   By ross_mccoy

    Version: CryptDisk.4h 3.0.0.2

    Pros

Looks like a relatively clean interface and maybe it works in XP, but I couldn't get it to load the driver it needed to access the created partition.

    Cons

Didn't work. I didn't spend a whole lot of time with it when I couldn't get the driver to install. I ended up downloading TrueCrypt instead and it seems much more professional and worked out of the box.

    Summary

Maybe it will be useful when it is more developed. Also had an annoying loading screen where you had to move the mouse or type in the window for it to make progress. I would not waste your time with this use TrueCrypt which is also freeware and seems pretty solid.

    "Sadly it doesn't work"

    January 29, 2009

    Version: CryptDisk.4h 3.0.0.2

    Pros

    Looks simple to use...

    Cons

    ...but it doesn't work!

    Summary

I have tried several times, with different options. Each time it creates the image file, but when trying to mount it the programme just hangs. Probably some sort of conflict with another utility, but life's too short to spend ages trying to find out which.

    Version: CryptDisk.4h 3.0.0.2

    Pros

I have tried a lot of time to hide critical files with some Tricks and Windows.

The results, always poor! (Finefood for Hackers)

With this Software, absolutly secure - in a few easy steps!

    Cons

There is no possibility to switch off the virtual disk after use.

Need to shut down and restart the PC.
