I wasn't completely new to file servers when I went hunting for remote server software, but I had never set up an FTP server. At first I thought I wanted to set up some sort of secure FTP server, but once I found CrushFTP and began exploring its features, I quickly learned that the download speed, user-friendliness, and security features I wanted were best provided by WebDAV SSL with a web interface. CrushFTP provided everything I needed to set up a working secure server and customized interface that is accessible from any standards-compliant web browser.
I spent an entire day messing around with another server app (PureFTPd Manager) in an attempt to set up a working server, but at the end of the day I still couldn't get it to work. Was that due to my own newbie ignorance? Perhaps -- but then again, applications should be so well-documented that even a newbie can figure out how to use them.
CrushFTP excels in that regard. In fact, just reading the documentation and viewing the training videos is an education in itself. The setup instructions and explanations of the features are vastly better than anything else I've seen. I got my own WebDAV SSL server up and running with a customized web interface in a few hours. Once I got the server working, I gladly bought the 10-user license.
CrushFTP provides a enormous range of features. Here's a partial list of the features I particularly like:- The ability to specify blackout periods during which there is no server access
- The customizable HTML web interface
- The .ZIP download feature, which allows the user to select the files to be downloaded and package them all up into a single .zip archive file
- Automatic e-mail notification identifying every user that successfully completes a download
- Fully detailed logging of all server activity, with lots of options for automatic saving of the server logs to a local directory
If you need a remote file server app that offers secure connections, lots of options, great documentation, and terrific support -- all at a price that can't be beat -- I don't think you'll do better than CrushFTP. -

Great FTP Server with a whole host of features which are made easy by the various training videos and documentation. The Web Interface is great and the auto zipped feature in the Crush Uploader is really quick. The support from the developer is the best I have ever had, answers emails within 24 hours and sometimes quicker. If you are looking for an FTP Server this is the one. Paid for it before the 30 day trial ended and well worth the money. Excellent. Highly recommended. -

The product itself is reliable and easy to use with all the performance and configuration you would ever need. But when we had a custom requirement I got in touch with Ben and within 24 hours he had written a new plugin that will make our use of the product much easier; significantly lowering the administrative overhead and ultimately increasing our security and productivity. Now, that plugin is available for all to use. Check out MagicDirectory on the plugins page of the website, it may save you a lot of time! Overall great product and incredible support! -

While I'm sure this product works straight away for most people, I am running an old system on an even older machine and could not connect to CrushFTP. After trying for days to fix the problem myself, I contacted Ben, the developer. He answered my e-mail almost immediately and started helping me to diagnose the problem. After several e-mails back and forth (all of which were answered promptly), he requested VNC access to our machine so that he could see what was going on for himself. The request was granted and suddenly he was here "in person" to fix the problem. He quickly found that it had to do with a java class which was missing from our system. So he compiled a CUSTOM VERSION of his software without reference to the java class and installed it on our system. Everything has worked perfectly since. Now, THAT'S technical support - and it all happened in less than 24 hours of my initial contact by e-mail. Thanks Ben! -

Wow -- this is a fine package. Setup was not difficult and stability using Transmit has been terrific on 10.3.3. Combine this with Complete Apache2, PHP and mySQL, and serving is much less of a chore.
