Crossword Forge 7.0.7 for Mac User Reviews
-
"Excellent Crossword Programme updated vert frequently"
Version: Crossword Forge 7.0.2
Pros
Excellent!
Cons
No cons ... probably more interesting features in the months to come.

"Works well, in trial mode, but no license key!"
Version: Crossword Forge 6.1.13
Pros
Works well. I like it.
Cons
I paid via credit card for a license but haven't received one. Their help email address is not taking email (48 hours). So I suspect that they have ceased trading. Suggest you don't buy until I post a correction to this review.
Summary
They may just have email probs - but at the moment I am $49 down.
Problem solved by really good customer service. I called them, left a message and they called me right back with a license key. Weird email problems - not sure on whose side - they couldn't mail me and I couldn't mail them.

"Excellent application!"
Version: Crossword Forge 6.1.11
Pros
Not only is making crossword puzzles easy, but tweaking the puzzle and the clues is very easy and intuitive. It is updated regularly. You can choose which fonts you want to use, whether to have a word bank appear, etc.
Cons
Unable to import crosswords from other programs.
Summary
This is the third crossword application for Macintosh that I have purchased, and it is by FAR the best one. A couple years ago I suggested adding a feature to enable hanging indents for the clues, and the next release incorporated this feature. I recommend it whole-heartedly!

"Best crossword application I've every used!"
Version: Crossword Forge 6.1.10
Pros
Crossword Forge is the best crossword puzzle application for Mac of the 3 (or 4?) that I have bought. It's easy to us, very flexible, and frequently updated. I wrote to the developers with a suggestion, and it was incorporated in the next release.
Cons
None that I can see.

"A great addition to any teacher's toolbox"
Version: Crossword Forge 6.1.8
Pros
Create crosswords in a variety of formats, including multiple versions with the same words (maybe your students don't copy, but mine do).
Control all aspects of the puzzles (font, sizes, headers, background).
Printed crosswords are beautiful.Cons
No word bank, but you can import from a text file.
Not intuitive; you need to read the manual.
I would like an export to Word document so I can format it to fit on one page.
Overpriced relative to the education market. -
"Bad customer service"
Version: Crossword Forge 6.1.5
Pros
Fun program. I make crosswords about our family vacations. Everyone loves them.
Cons
I bought this a few years ago. Downloaded the update. It wouldn't upgrade. Tried to charge me again. Sent an email about it. Never heard back.

"Slick program.."
Version: Crossword Forge 5.0
Summary

...that can be quite useful in an educational setting. Very attentive customer support, although no upgrade path was offered after version 4.5 except repurchasing the program at full price. This seemed both arbitrary and a bit offputting to me, an early adopter, especially since the program has not gone through a leap in features that would justify paying for it twice. -
"My kids like the puzzles"

C.F. works great and my kids like the crosswords and word searches. I'm amazed at how often the maker sends out updates. I've never had any problems ("issues" are something people debate aren't they?). -
