CNET Editors' note: The Windows 98 WDM driver only works with Windows 98 SE. You will need to use the Windows 98 WDM drivers only if you intend to use Microsoft DVD Player or need DirectShow support. Aside from the WDM drivers, there are no major changes or updates in the applications and drivers from the previous version. This package works only with the PC-DVD Encore and PC-DVD Encore 5x kits with a Dxr2 Decoder, and the PC-DVD RAM drive with a Dxr2 Decoder card. This file does not support the Dxr3 Decoder.

"Manual MISPRINTED!"
Version: Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore Driver (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0) (7/16/1999)
Summary
I found that it was NOT possible to install the original drivers in win 95 or 98 by exactly following Createives useless manual as a misprint meant that only a call to tech support made the intall work in 95, the upgrade to 98 was awkward, and now that I have XP, it is useless in XP, and only a double boot install, so that I was able to boot and play dvds in 98 using the old OS, has kept the board from being UTTERLY useless, This IS a pattern at creative, cutting edge tech, rushed to market with BAD documentation, and then rapidly abandoned as the OS gets upgraded, creative is now near LAST place in my list of vendors and I am reluctant to buy ANYTHING from them ever again REGARDLESS of how nifty or advanced it may seem at the moment......

"It might work with XP"
Version: Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore Driver (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0) (7/16/1999)
Summary
...But I shouldn't have to buy a new OS to get a dvd player to work. I wasted about 3 hours b/4 reading the other reports of how it simply does not work with win 2000.

"Bad support - but it does work!"
Version: Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore Driver (Windows 95/98/NT 4.0) (7/16/1999)
Summary
I've just got a second hand DXR2 and installed the hardware onto a WinXP machine without a hitch. The drivers would not install as the Readme.1st instructed, neither would the XP driver wizard. But if I manually installed the driver and pointed to the 'WDM' folder (from this unzipped download) for an inf file the driver installed OK. Once running I had to play around with the picture output to remove blue pixels and distortion. Now it runs like a dream and I'm very pleased with the picture on my TV too. It amazes me how people can't get something working so immediately assume it doesn't work. A little effort is all it takes.
