"Fantastic online backup program, and reasonable cost"

    March 09, 2012   |   By 1sdman

    Version: CrashPlan PRO 3.1

Family Plan (2-10 computers) allows all your coputers to be backed up.
    Minimal impact to pc/mac
Selectable files/folders to be backed up including whole computer.
    Fast tech support response.
    Unlimited data per computer.
NO throttling from vendor, speed chosen by user.
Works in background, but you can monitor if desired.
Default is weekly status reporting by email.
Can also backup to another (like a friend's) computer, a folder or a drive.
    Very reasonable pricing

Honestly, no cons. Maybe I can't backup my iPad.

Much,Much,Much,Much, better than Carbonite. I actually forced Carbonite to refund my account since they THROTTLE your backup speed. After a year, Carbonite had not finished my backup!!! Not so with CrashPlan, it's full speed (up to you). Backup was done in 2 weeks!

Easy interface, most users won't know the program is even running, so the weekly reports are important so that they know it's still working!

No crashes, simple to modify settings. Absolutely a dream of a program.

Reasonably costs. I upgraded to the Unlimited Family Plan. We have a number of PC's/Macs, the Family Plan backs up 2-10 PC's or Mac's, with unlimited data each. My PC's and Mac;'s usually have about 1TB each. To accomplish offsite backups using hard drives would be considerably more expensive

    Get CrashPlan. You'll be glad.

    Full Specifications

    What's new in version 3.1

    New Features / Enhancements

    • Automatically pause backups when you're running low on battery. This option allows you to conserve battery power when you're running low by not backing up. Backup resumes when battery power returns to a level you specify or when you are plugged back in.
    • Permission option when restoring files for another user. When you're restoring files, you have the option to restore file with the original user's file permissions or with the permissions belonging to the person who is restoring.
    • Windows and Mac users: Automatically pause backups over selected networks or interfaces. You now have the option to automatically pause backups when you are on specific networks (e.g., Wi-Fi) or using specific interfaces.
    • Mac users: Menu bar icon and controls. There is now a CrashPlan PRO menu bar for Mac users. Windows users have appreciated the easy access to basic CrashPlan PRO features right from the menu bar. Now Mac users can enjoy this same convenient feature.
    • Version retention settings are now based on the highest priority backup set for a specific destination (not all ALL destinations.)
    • New file types are automatically excluded from backup. /var/log/lastlog, /var/log/btmp, /var/log/wtmp

    Bug Fixes

    • Real-time file watcher now works properly on Linux installations with 3.x series kernels
    • Attaching an archive no longer adversely affects existing archive.
    • Setting up a backup to an attached drive no longer redirects to the local install path of CrashPlan PRO.
